All season tyres
Hi
My front tyres are needing to be replaced on a December 17 registered Symbol ASAP. Does anyone have suggestions/experience of all season tyres? I live in north Scotland so need tyres that have great traction in wet conditions as a priority and secondly on grass and with ice/snow.
Any help very gratefully received.

Member ‘Kingham’ has posted about tyres in similar circumstances recently if I recall. Might be worth a PM, I will see if I can find his thread.

If Kingham's experience detailed in the link above aren't enough, I can vouch for Cross Climates too.
Had them on our Kingham for about a year now - used all year round, mostly in Scotland, but also a couple of French trips, including a snowboarding trip to The Alps.
Never had an issue with them on any surface or road condition.
Seem to be wearing well too.
Tommy.

Re: All season tyres
I changed to Toyo H09 M&S tyres on our Pollensa some years ago and have been very pleased with them. Much better on mud & wet grass and although we're in Fife so not as far north as you, we have used them in varying snow and icy conditions and been very pleased with the performance.

Re: All season tyres
I Rang Michelin to ask specifically about the use of Cross Climate tyres on my Nuevo. I was told very firmly that they were NOT suitable for motorhomes. I was told that Cross Climates are suitable for white van use where loads vary considerably and where the vehicles are in continual use. The most telling thing against Cross Climates for me was that their construction will not handle the situation where a heavy vehicle is regularly stationary for significant periods of time. Michelin's recommendation for motorhomes is their Camping tyre.
That saddened me as I have found Cross Climates superb on my Prius, particularly because of their tread. However, the Michelin Camping tyres are HUGELY better grip than my previous factory fitted Continental Camping tyres.

Michelin Agilis M&S C are for motor homes, I can vouch that they are very good.

Re: All season tyres
Although I’ve not tested the Crossclimates in the snow yet, they continue to impress me on wet grass and muddy tracks, as well as general road holding in this colder weather.
As Inspiredron says, Michelin do not recommend their use for motorhomes due to them not liking long periods of inactivity. As my van is currently my only vehicle and is on the road pretty much every day, I decided to give the Crossclimates a go.
So far, so good, but if you don’t use the van much, you might be better following Daisy Mae’s lead.

Re: All season tyres
I had these Agilis C tyres as the walls are strengthend especially suitable for MH `s as they are usually loaded most of the time. there also performed well in soggy ground , grass. on a campsite in recent wet weather. , got off he site no hesitation at all.
My vans are used all through the year, will be going away next month.
Hope you get it sorted and choose the tyres that are suitable for you.

Re: All season tyres
I'm looking at tyres too... Just checked and oponeo say that the agilis camping is a summer tyre!
And, I think, looking at prices, there's a lot of difference between a tyre for a van and a tyre for a motorhome. A bit like buying levi jeans compared to Tescos finest.
Currently have hankook tyres on ours, plenty of tread etc, but I don't feel happy with them, they don't feel very grippy! We have a dirt track to the house which of course is never gritted unless I do it myself, and single track 'b' roads for 20 miles in either direction so something a bit more grippy would be a big bonus. We're out a few days a week with it, so deformation due to lack of use wouldn't be an issue.
Will watch this thread with interest. (and also check out the one linked to)

Re: All season tyres
As many of you will already be aware, one of the key points about winter or all season tyres apart from tread pattern is the material of composition. Summer tyres will become much less elastic and more rigid in cold temperatures and so lose grip. Tyres designed for use in winter will remain elastic at lower temperatures.
So even a two wheel drive vehicle fitted with winter tyres can grip better in very cold weather than a 4WD fitted with summer compound tyres.
Winter/M&S tyres also have a different tread pattern, including sipes, which are actually designed to work better when filled with snow, whereas snow-packed summer tread patterns would be rendered ineffective.

Re: All season tyres
Thanks for the written advice from Michelin, Kingham. I was quoting From memory as I had phoned them back in July. It's quite reassuring that my recollection is almost precisely confirmed and my marbles are still working!
Fully understand why you tried the Cross Climates as you use the van as a daily car. I have had my £132.50 VEDrefund already and the van is now winterized until April. I will move it once or twice but, probably no more.
I, too, am hugely impressed with Cross Climate grip on my Prius but also with the Agilis Camping. Our rear garden entrance is down a 200m 1 in 8 (roughly) unsurfaced track. Getting up it with the Continentals was hairy, invariably with regards scrabbling for grip. The Agilis seem to sail up even in damp conditions.

Many thanks everyone for your responses. I didn’t get email notifications and I couldn’t see any response when I looked on this site. Weegie kindly sent me link to this when I posted in Technical this morning. Will look at all your responses now...
