Waste pipe destroyed in transit!
I arrived home yesterday after a 100 mile trip, got out of the van and noticed the grey waste pipe hanging down. The grey tap and pipe are intact but pretty much destroyed.
It was definitely clipped in before I left site as I always do a walk round of the van before setting off. I suspect the very high speed bumps at the site dislodged it and it spent the whole journey dragging on the road.
It’s not a hard job to replace both but I’m not happy!!

Re: Waste pipe destroyed in transit!
Had almost the same problem this week on my new Warwick XL with the tank end of the grey pipe becoming detached in transit and getting irrepairably damaged. Luckily the spring clip held the tap end in place. The tank end seemed to have been push fitted. The detached end of the pipe had dragged along the road surface and friction shortened it meaning it could not be reattached which would have been a real nuisance had we not been on the way home. Can't understand why it wasn't more permanently attached.
Had exactly the same thing happen with my previous Autosleeper.
I know it's not a major issue but it is frustrating.

I have never noticed the bumps travelling at any speed let alone a high one.Dbvwt wrote:I arrived home yesterday after a 100 mile trip, got out of the van and noticed the grey waste pipe hanging down. The grey tap and pipe are intact but pretty much destroyed.

Similarly, recently had to slot waste tap back into spring clip. Discovered soon after acquiring van several years ago that the waste pipe was easily pulled out of tank. Only advantage being that you could readily stick the end of a hose in to flush out any crud that might have accumulated inside. Probably need to adjust/replace retaining clip.

Hmmm!
Mine is a tight fit in the clip and have a job releasing it. So hope it does not happen to me, mind you I can recall when we had the Topaz destroying the drain tap by dragging on the ground, but I forgot to clip it in after leaving our drive. Easy replacement found online.

Ours came adrift, luckily on a site as I was emptying on our first trip with the van. I found a new (metal)c at an ironmonger in Slovenia and then discovered that the plastic one had not been properly fitted!

Tie wraps one of the first jobs I did sorry to sound smart but it should not be a job you have to do, so yes I agree I was not happy but had the advantage of workshops.

Thanks for the comments.
Must admit, I’ve never thought the waste solution was brilliant in the 9 months I’ve owned the van.
Like others have found, the push fit at the tank end is not great either, mine came out after about a month.
Woofy...tie wraps not really an option as the pipe needs to be released/lowered every time for the tank to drain properly.
I’m seriously thinking of doing a mod of some kind rather than just replacing the pipe and tap again.

Re: Waste pipe destroyed in transit!
Do they still use terry clips to hold the drain pipe up? We had exactly the same problem on the Trooper (and several previous A/S conversions), and one of the causes seems to be that they use cheap, uncoated clips that are too big for the job.
We solved the problem by buying several different sizes of plastic-coated Terry clips and then fitting one that gripped the pipe tightly.
This would probably be enough, though I admit I've done what Woofy/Guest suggests and put a ty-rap loosely over the open end of the terry clip - it doesn't need to be very tight to sit in the returns at the end of the clip arms, so is fairly easy to remove.

Re: Waste pipe destroyed in transit!
This happened on our Duetto, there was only one terry clip. The pipe was too short as was so replacing the pipe and tap meant we had to fit more terry clips bringing the tap under the passenger door. After this the pipe never came adrift again and we had better acces to drains.
It was a challenge finding terry clips locally. The bigger DIY store staff had no idea what I was talking about.
It was an old fashioned sell every thing shop that had them. It was a bit like Arkwrights shop. The clips were put in a brown paper bag with self tapping screws for fitting.
I am thinking of altering the drain pipe on the Rienza. It comes out of the back of the tank and loops round to run forwards to the tap recessed in the side skirt behind the drivers door. Being such a contorted route it can't help getting bunged up occasionally.
