Blind cassette loose in sliding door on our fairford. Has been loose before but sorted at 1st hab service. Seems a screw had come loose. Any one had this problem ? Can I re tighten it myself as not due 2nd hab service till Nov.

Re: Sliding door blind cassette loose
It's a common problem, the fixing screws work loose over time with use of the sliding door. I can't imagine yours is much different to ours, in which case it's an easy job to fix.
You'll need to remove the fabric covered wooden panel that surrounds the sliding door window. Ours has 10 fixing screws with plastic cover caps. Prise off the caps but when removing the screws be aware that their length varies, with the longest at the top of the panel and getting shorter towards the bottom edge. This is because the thickness of the panel changes across it's vertical axis - thicker at the top than the bottom.
With the panel removed the blind assembly is exposed and you'll find it's fixed to the window surround with 4 thin metal strips and self tappers, 2 at the top and 2 at the bottom. These are what need to be tightened to stop the blind rattling. I put a tiny spot of superglue on the screw heads to act as a lock-tight.

Our Kingham suffers from the same problem.
I had a look at removing the panel but did not think I could access all of the screws due cabinet's being in the road of getting a screwdriver to all of the screws.
I'll have to have another look to make sure I can't

Re: Sliding door blind cassette loose
Thankfully I didn't have that problem on the Kemerton. Might it be possible to access the panel fixings with the sliding door in the open or partially open position using a stubby or angled driver?

This facebook posting well illustrates the problem and an excellent solution.

Thankyou to everyone. I will give it a go. I can’t get that Facebook link to work I’m afraid. Maybe because I don’t do Facebook?

Facebook link descibes and has photos of a softwood packer being placed and glued under the blind to replace two of the brackets, and new screws securing the blind to the wood. Pipe insulation also used to stop side of blind rattling.
Sorry to those unable to access facebook.

Fixing the Rattling Side Door Blind
EXTRACT FROM FACEBOOK POST
"step by step instructions....
1. Remove trim, screws are different lengths so make a note. Some are difficult to get to but no problem with tool in picture.
2. Tighten AS brackets, 2 of mine were loose when checked.
3. Fix sections of softwood battens, best glue is Sikaflex. I profiled the wood on my table saw. A few slim wood spacers were needed for packing for a snug fit.
4. Once dry, lift blind up and drill pilot hole through the cream casing into the softwood batten. Be extremely careful because the paper blind material is very delicate and easily ripped/marked. I used a plate to protect it from the drill chuck.
5. Fix with screws and tidy with screw caps.
6. I added pipe insulation in any gaps
7. Refit trim and test - see video.
At the same time I’ve added extra insulation to the lower panned in the side door and the rear doors. I used a full roll of insulation!!! (From B&Q £16 made from recycled plastic bottles - totally itch free)
The difference is amazing!!! The door shuts with a satisfying clunk and zero rattles when closing and driving.
Well pleased!!! "
Unfortunately I have not figured how to transfer the photos and video from this facebook post to this forum but hope at least this is of some help.

To access all of the screws you need to use a small screwdriver (about 2 inches long at most) and manoeuvre the door back and forward (neither fully closed nor open - it's helpful if someone else holds the door where you need it to be).
Been there, done that.

Re: Sliding door blind cassette loose
I've resorted to using four rubber door stops, one wedged firmly in each corner.
Shocking really, that we have to use such measures, when you consider the cost of a van these days.

Re: Sliding door blind cassette loose
In my case it isn`t the screws in the frame coming loose, as I had the panel off when I refurbished the van and I know they are tight, made double sure, it is the actual blind moving in the frame hence the bungs.
Cannot say about the newer vans.

Re: Sliding door blind cassette loose
Coincidentally, I was about to post a question about a very annoying rattle/clanging noise we've begun to experience from the sliding door on our Peugeot Boxer based Symbol Plus. We managed to effect a temporary solution by jamming a wadge of paper towel between the window and the blind frame and asked Marquis to look at the issue today whilst it was in for another problem. Marquis said this was a not uncommon problem and promised to investigate - however when we picked up the van they said there was no obvious fault. They said they had inserted some foam packing in an attempt to mitigate the issue., but unfortunately on the drive home it soon became apparent that the noise problem was about the same as before. I should say at this point that we are generally very pleased with the service we get from Marquis.
It sounds like we are experiencing the same problem that is covered in this thread - would members concur? That being the case, I shall try implementing the remedies described next time we have the van on the drive.

A bit drastic but done once done right it will last the life of the van.
