We are looking at changing from a coachbuilt (Broadway) to a van conversion, possibly a Fairford. We travel to fairly hot climates and are worried about possible lack of ventilation and also not having fly screens as it would not be sensible to sleep with doors open. What are the views on this? Perhaps we should consider air conditioning?

I haven’t got room on the roof of my Kingham for aircon, but so far I’ve managed to keep the van cool overnight with open rooflights and a small USB fan that plugs in in the bedroom.

All the opening rooflights and side windows have insect mesh.

My PVC has a fan built in to one of the roof lights that can be set to blown air in, or suck air out - which helps keep my dog cool at night as she sleeps directly below it smile!

When it's exceptionally hot we often sleep with the side windows of the van wide open and the fly screens closed. That said, we're on camp sites, not wild camping, so security probably isn't much of an issue.

I've been tempted to replace that rear fan / roof light with an aircon unit, but I can't justify the cost currently, we only ever travel in the UK, never abroad. If we were to travel to warmer climes I'd no doubt be looking at some kind of roof mounted air con unit by now rolleyes
