Awnings or Tents
Hello All,
I have a Trooper and i have read a lot of the pros and cons regarding Awnings and i was wondering wether a fast erect tent with a canopy may be more advantagous.
This is what i was looking at OZTENT RV-2.
What are your opinions ??
All the best
Albert

Hi Avocet
We used a driveaway awning for a few years before we got fed up of its bulk and the time it took to put it up and down.
So we bought a Quechua Base 2 tent which you can read about and see next to our Trident by clicking on this link.

Re: Awning and Tent
Hi Albert
We sometimes take an OZTENT RV-1 and use a caravan connector to attach to the sail track on an extended Fiamma awning. This gives a large covered area and can be used with side blockers on the awning and tent.
The two disadvantages of the OZTENT range are the price and the packed length of 2m if you have the RV-2 to RV-5. The RV-1 is even too long at 1.6m but I guess this is the price you pay for quick erection. It literally is 30-seconds.
If you want something more compact when packed down, slower to erect, but more expensive then have a look at the JET Tent range by OZTENT.
Regards
Keith

One consideration............
...........when deciding between an awning or tent is that some sites will charge extra for a tent where as the awning would be included. I appreciate this sounds daft, but if the tent is not fixed to the vehicle you may be charged.

Does your site charge extra then? We mainly use CC and C&CC sites and always ask if we can erect a pup-tent (ours is a small 2mtr x 1.5mtr dome tent) and have never been refused or charged extra for.

I don't often use my awning, but when I do, I don't attach it to the van. No site owner has ever commented on this, and they would be fortunate indeed if they "charged me extra" for it.

No, we don't. That information came from a few different customers who have had bad experiences elsewhere.
Provided the pup tent/ awning/ tent is kept within the boundary of the pitch then they are not charged extra. If someone was to take the Mick and have a camper plus an 8 berth tunnel tent sited lengthways which takes up 2 pitches in total then obviously extra charges would be incurred!

I think that a lot depends if you are on your own. I could not put up a driveaway awning on my own so am having a Fiamma awning fitted tomorrow. As it was impossible with two large dogs and my husband in my VW Trident we have bought a caravan as well now!!! Anyone lving near Newmarket, Suffolk want a brand new driveaway awning with maybe a donation to a Charity?

Hi there,
We have just invested in a Wind Blocker.
Easy to erect, very light weight, up or down in about 20 minutes.
It is obviously "see through" but with our windbreaks in place we do have a modicum of "privacy" below the waist!
Best regards,
