Cat 2 to 1 Upgrade
Hello again
As mentioned previously, we're shortly due to take delivery of a peugeot boxer based symbol plus. The van come with a category 2 immobiliser as standard, but we're looking into upgrading to a category 1 system which would include an alarm.
Does anyone have any comments on the cost and usefulness of such an upgrade and any recommended suppliers?
Thanks

Re: Cat 2 to 1 Upgrade
I have an Autowatch 695 upgrade, works fine with the added advantage that it can work on the original vehicle key, no seperate fob required.

I had the Autowatch alarm fitted too, as mentioned nice that it works with the original key.
The only annoyance is the volume of the alert when you lock/unlock the van, especially if you've left a door ajar which results in a couple of piercing shrill beeps, but it's good it warns you a door is unlocked.

My van has Cobra 2.1 alarm that uses original fob but a word of warning - if you only have one remote fob and one standard key , then you cannot operate the alarm with the standard key. A spare Peugeot remote fob is around £200. If you have an alarm fitted that has separate fob then that problem doesn't arise.
This was already fitted when I bought the van but I had same one fitted to my Nuevo which I had fitted by local auto-electrician for £300.

I got a hell of good deal with Adrian Flux just by owning a DISCLOK, I mean hundreds of pounds.
I'm an engineer and I own an angle grinder, and, if I ever wanted to sell the DUO, having cut the Disclok off I doubt if I could!!

I have a autowatch fitted, which I also asked for a sim unit so I get a text alert if the alarm is triggered, you can also test the signal strength by sending a ?.
If you only have one remote key supplied with the van, you will need autowatch to supply a key fob for use with the spare key.
One drawback I have found, you need to wait a couple of seconds after locking the van to press the lock button again to activate the dead lock.
Otherwise you disable the internal sensors. I do get the odd false alarm, due to who knows.
Must agree the setting beeps are loud.

Many Thanks for the helpful replies. We've approached the dealer about giving us a quote, our man is at the NEC at the moment so hope to hear back next week.
