Re: What purpose do the roof bars serve?
Further to Dave 418 's post, I had a Rienza and I seem to remember reading (in the handbook??) that they were suitable for securing items between the two bars, resting directly on the roof.... the items could then be strapped to the cross rails. The rails spanned across the roof between the two rigid solid longitudinal sections.

I went the same route as @Windychippy and removed the decorative rails, replaced with load-bearing roof rails, Thule cross bars, and a roof box.

Did you do the mod yourself, if so how did you get on, what was in your opinion the most difficult part. Just want to get someone else's take on doing the mod.
Thanks Windy

Removing the bloody sticky stuff the decorative bars were stuck down with was by FAR the hardest part of the mod!
The decorative bars weren't load bearing but the stuff they stuck them down with sure was
It was one of those moments where you really think "What have I started here...?"

My thoughts exactly hence the reason for my original post on the subject. Glad you managed it yourself.
Think Roli is going to include a fix in the fact files for the cosmetic bars.
Cheers Windy
