Roof bars or rack for Trooper
Hi, I wondered if any other Trooper owners have fitted roof bars or a roof rack to the pop up top? I need to transport a Kayak but it's banned from going inside. I have a feeling that I can fit roof bars but am concerned about wind forces on the roof itself when carrying a kayak.

Others have asked before, but my personal view - knowing that roof very well - is that you should not do it.
Have you tried phoning A/S themselves and asking? I'm pretty sure that they never offered it as a factory option - and there's likely to be a good reason for that if they didn't!

I’m not sure if this will help but I have a A/S Montana poptop which has a Reimo roof and the roof rails are part of the roof made of aluminium. The Montana has a Mercedes Vito base so when I found some Vito roof bars I fitted them with a little modification. The reason like you was to carry a kayak but I think it maybe to heavy for the Reimo roof so I now have an inflatable kayak which sits in the front footwell. It’s not as good as my TEK kayak but is good fun as long as sea is calm and the wind is very light.

Thanks for the reply but I think an inflatable is the only sensible solution due to the weight and wind sheer effects on the roof .biffobear wrote:I’m not sure if this will help but I have a A/S Montana poptop which has a Reimo roof and the roof rails are part of the roof made of aluminium. Or a trailer for a modular kayak. That's what I'm planning to get.

Could you not fit foot bars before and after the raising roof ( assuming that there is room) and then somehow raise the bars to allow a kayak to sit above it

No, not possible on a Trooper, because of the design of the pop-top - it covers the back of the underlying roof completely, and hinges backwards. The front section isn't flat either.

Thanks, not really took much notice of them on sites, just a thought it may be the same as the lads VW Camper vanRoopert wrote:No, not possible on a Trooper, because of the design of the pop-top - it covers the back of the underlying roof completely, and hinges backwards.
