Sliding door retainer
Hi. Had a curious look at a Pilote-Danbury pvc 2019 and noticed that the sliding door has a stop that holds the door in the mid open position. It is a metal wedge shape held in place to the back wall of the lower track with two screws. An upright flat faces rearward and a slope towards the front. On opening the door, the roller rides up the slope and drops behind the upright face, so stopping the door fromsliding to the closed position.
Do any colleagues know where such a stop can be bought - far better than the stick I use in the door gap?

Re: Sliding door retainer
I've not come across that type but I've got one of these waiting to fit in warmer weather (for the silicon adhesive to cure)
Google Stopsy , it's a German supplier, very expensive for what it is
Stopsy © Doorstop for panel van
Stops sliding doors to Fiat Ducato box cars, Citroen Jumper, Renault Master, Mercedes Sprinter, Peugeot Boxer, Opel Movano & VW Crafter.
Accessories for motorhome panel van, Stopsy © as retrofit kit for additional locking at a desired position of the side sliding door of panel van.
Also this one from Amazon

Re: Sliding door retainer
Almost zero cost!
Self adhesive velcro, find the door open point you want, mark it, glue 2inches onto top of rail, then one more on top.
Wheels easily run over it but there is enough restriction to stop door closing.
Works on mine!!

Tried that but the silicon spray I used on the rail transferred from the roller onto the velcro pad eventually peeling it off, got fed up of renewing. I got my Stopsy from a member on another forum , unused and a lot less than the German price.IanH wrote:Almost zero cost!

the one you sent the link to doesn't allow the side door to fully open, the velcro bodge does.
The door must fully open on the Duo to allow access to the loo cassette door.
When next in Spain, or Portugal, find a Chinese supermarket, in there you will find 99% pure alchohol, this removes anything which stops glue from adhering..

The Velcro tab works for us. I have had to renew it once, but it does provide a simple solution to the problem.

See the post from April 2018 misspelt “slideing door stop”

Theres a photo of the piece of bent metal used by a few van converters. I bought one from Brownhills Motorhomes it’s stainless steel so won’t rust but costs around £11. They will post one out to you. You could try Adria as I think they use them. 2 self tappers hold it onto the bottom rail wherever you want the door to stop. You can still open the door fully but you need to remember it’s there when closing from fully open. You can remove it easily such as when leaving the van for service as garage staff won’t realise it’s there. I wouldn’t bother with bits of Velcro or corks etc or the ”stopsy ” It’s simple but well designed. You could make one if you can find a suitable bit of stainless steel or alloy to bend but it was easier to buy something made for the job. I’ve been using it for a few years. I transferred it from my previous van to the Kingham

We used a champagne cork, with a chamfer cut into it. Just jam it in the lower track.

Re: Sliding door retainer
You all seem to have sorted something out there were suggestions in a a post a couple of years ago. I orginally went for the bolt head method until a member pointed out that metal could damage the door mechanism so changed to the rubber wedged in the track option as he suggested and its been there now for a couple of years

This is the stuff, will degrease almost anything and improve glues 100%
Should you ever need to, if you glue things together with kiddies glue sticks, for whatever reason, immersion in this stuff dissolves the kiddy glue and separates the components
Marvellous stuff!
Should you ever do abroad, by aircraft, ensure its in your hold bag!!

Would a poor peoples cork work, or does it HAVE to be a champagne one???Achilles heel wrote:We used a champagne cork, with a chamfer cut into it. Just jam it in the lower track.

I should have pointed out that we found our champagne cork, on a beach as I recall.

Re: Sliding door retainer
Hello TJB. Thank you for the reference to a previous discussion and for your reference to a supplier at Newark. I will seek out one.
Tennis ball was tried but I was concerned it would damage the slide and wire and so rejected it in the end. I assume the metal wedge shape as supplied ought to be the answer.
Reply from you and colleagues appreciated.

Re: Sliding door retainer
Hi Windychippy. I bought one from Brownhills at Newark a couple of years ago ! I called in when we were passing by and saw one on a new van I was looking at, so I just bought one. I assume you didn’t have any success with them last year? I’ve emailed Autotrail parts to see if they can help and I’ll let you know what they say. Should be easy enough to make one if you can find a suitable bit of metal to bend and drill 2 holes in. It works just like the stop that’s already on the van and we don’t really open the door fully anymore except when its hot. We park on a steeply sloping drive at home and it makes opening the door uphill much easier. Tim

Re: Sliding door retainer
Hi All The initial emailed response from Autotrail parts department at Grimsby this morning was that they only supply to Autotrail customers!!, not very helpful really, but in the end they admitted they do stock the item. In order to buy one direct they wanted the reg and build number. I think it would be best to try your nearest Autotrail dealer who will have direct access to their parts. That's where Brownhills told me they get them from. (Part number 13MET0022 DOOR MID STOP). If anyone wants, I can take mine off and measure it so you can make your own. Tim

Same here. Fitted a curtain screw to it to push/pull it out from the hole it fits into on the track.Achilles heel wrote:We used a champagne cork, with a chamfer cut into it. Just jam it in the lower track.
