T4 Trooper interior strip-out
Having decided to attack the rust around the rear panels and floor of my trusty '98-er from underneath (including removing the two welded crossmembers supporting the rear floor) I now feel it may be easier, essential even, to access the top of the floor panel by stripping out the carpet and floorboards. I have taken out the rear seat/bed, seat belts and big draw assembly but am unsure about how to remove the cupboards etc. before I can get the flooring up.
I managed to find a very comprehensive guide to doing the job on a T25 here - https://vwt25.blog/2016/09/07/removing-autosleeper-interior-units/
which is certainly useful but I'm guessing the T4 will have various differences. Any suggestions will be gratefully received.
Cheers, Paul.
P.S. As this seems to be my first posting I'd better say hello. So - hi everyone.

Good luck with your restoration. Think you are wise stripping out although you dont get too heat displacement with MIG welding its best to be on the safe side

Re: T4 Trooper interior strip-out
Thanks guys for the welcomes and comments but I'm not much further forward. Surely someone must have done this before. Maybe I'm asking the wrong forum? Any suggestions? Perhaps I should try AS.

Re: T4 Trooper interior strip-out
Is there anybody there?
Well, for all those fascinated souls - I managed to strip out the cupboards etc. without doing any damage but it was a bit of a ball-ache with one or two blind alleys. So - if anyone's interested I'd be more than happy to elucidate.
Cheers, Paul.

Hi Paul, welcome to the forum.
Have you tried the T4 Forum [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I've often found it useful with problems on my T4.
Good luck with the restoration, it'll be worth it in the end!

Thanks for this, Rich. Yes, I've posted on that forum as well - and end up answering my own questions. Maybe it's just the way I tell 'em.
Anyway, full speed ahead now - and keeping the faith so far.

Re: T4 Trooper interior strip-out
How is it going Paul. Did you take any pictures. I would like to have more knowledge on stripping out, as i had a leak from the drivers side window above the fridge and the carpet had some dampspots.

Re: T4 Trooper interior strip-out
Hi Claire. All going well, thanks, but what started as repairing a few rust spots turned into a major restoration project. All interior was stripped out along with all rear suspension. Just now finishing off re-installation with new wood floor, carpets ( I managed to find an exact match to original) and underlay, sound deadening and insulation.
I found the driver's side front carpet and underlay were wet as a result of leaking in the corner of the windscreen - a common problem. The rear flooring was also damp under the fridge area which I initially put down to seepage from the front leak. However, with the interior bare I noticed that when it rained water was trickling inside from both the fridge vent surrounds and the sliding window to bodywork seal. On removing all these I found that the 20-year-old sealant had hardened and was no longer waterproof. Cleaning off and renewing all the sealant cured all the leaks.
I took loads of photos to help re-installation so if you need any pointers I will try to help.
Cheers,
Paul
