MOT advice
I have the van MOT coming up in the next couple of months (my first one with the van). I’m just wondering if anyone can advise me what class the garage needs to be, to take the size of the Sussex Duo. Is it class 4?
Also, I don’t suppose anyone can recommend a garage in the Keighley, West Yorks area can they? I can’t use my normal car garage as a) they are far too small and b) they have just changed hands.
I may also get the servicing done at the same time.
Many thanks in advance for any comments and/or advice

Re: MOT advice
The last MOT I had was 2016 and the certificate says test class 4 (was a Symbol).
I would simply ask for an MOT for a LWB (6m) Peugeot Boxer Van and mention the van height when booking.
HTH in some way

Yes as Don says, just mention it is a Van, the garage I used tests up to class 7. You should have no problem finding one, sorry not your way but mine charged me only £29.99!
Down here the local council depot do servicing and Mot's and I have been told are very good.
I just looked online.
Good luck.

Re: MOT advice
Make sure the garage can handle not only the height but the length. The garage I've used for over 10 years couldn't do it when I got there. The van fitted on the ramp but the sliding jack they use wouldn't go far enough back to lift the rear axle.

Couldn't the van be reversed on?

Re: MOT advice
Apparently it would have made no difference, the jack's that they slide along the centre don't actually go right to either end of the lift. It was about 6" short of reaching back to the axle. I suppose they could have checked front end then taken van off and reversed on for the rear but that wasn't suggested and I didn't think of it at the time. The van only just fitted on the lift.peugeotboxer wrote:Paulmold wrote:Make sure the garage can handle not only the height but the length. Something else that might be worth checking - when I get my van "main dealer" serviced, one of things that they offer as an option is that they will have the MOT done for you - in my case the cost is significantly cheaper than anywhere else, plus they sort out whether the MOT station can handle the size of vehicle. On a vehicle that's still under warranty, there is really no down-side to doing this. For older vehicles there is still a slight risk that they will "find" work to be done - but in my experience, main dealers tend to be less inclined to do this than independents (though perhaps I have just been lucky).

Hi
Try your local ATS they usually have a large commercial ramp and if you are a CAMC member they give you a discount on your MOT
Regards

Re: MOT advice
Thank you all for the comments so far.
I did wonder about whether or not to have it serviced via the main dealer. I never do this for my car, as I’ve trusted my small local garage to do a better, honest job. I did wonder about asking on here whether it was worth having it done at the main dealer (it’s out of warranty) but I suspected I would get definitive answers ranging from definitely yes, definitely no and it depends!

Re: MOT advice
The advantage of Main Dealer services, at least occasionally, is you get updates to systems software, and also more likely to get a dealer contribution for fault repair out of warranty.

Definitely, it depends.
I still use a main dealer for half of my annual services (and do the other half myself) but that's mainly because I'm the original buyer and as Ploughlin says, may get goodwill if anything big goes wrong. If you're the second+ owner then IMO there is less reason - they will almost always be more expensive than an indie.
I also tend to use main dealer for things where there's a chance that a non-specialist garage could get things seriously wrong. For example, refilling the gearbox on the Trooper (which is supposed to be "sealed for life"), which needs a custom filling rig to get the level correct.

MOT
A friend of mine with motorhome uses Peter Irwin at Cononley. 01535 632391. He says he’s good and not expensive. It’s a class 4 MOT garage. My previous van was under 3 years so I used a Peugeot garage in Halifax for a service as the usual Peugeot dealership in Keighley closed last year. It’s difficult finding one with a high enough workshop. I shopped around and prices varied considerably. Good luck.
