Sliding door - internal handle
I expect this will be common to all Boxer conversions.
When opening the sliding door from the inside it is quite easy to crush your fingers if you hold on to the handle for the full travel of the door (please don't try to verify this by experiment).
Has anyone else experienced this ? And do you have a fix? (Other than "take your hand off the handle")
Thought I'd better get on and ask this while I can still type.
Rgds

Re: Sliding door - internal handle
I've never thought about it until you've just mentioned it, so I tried leaving my hand on the lever, by way of experiment and certainly on my Kingham there is absolutely no crush risk.
The door moves outwards as it slides and this easily leaves sufficient space behind my kitchen unit, without any risk to my hand.
You've obviously got a different set up, so not a common problem with all Boxers.

Thanks, but not the lever, the 'D' handle, and the problem isn't with the conversion but the frame of the door.

Re: Sliding door - internal handle
Didn't know they had a D handle fitted as standard. I fitted a D handle myself onto the window ledge to help shutting it without the well known 'sliding-door slam'.

My Duetto has a chromed steel drawer handle fitted to the inner door frame just above the standard internal handle lock by one of it's previous owners.

Thanks, that explains my confusion, there’s no D handle on mine !

Re: Sliding door - internal handle
I can see how your fingers get caught. From the recess in the door card it would appear to be original but my 2010 Sussex has no such handle.

Ouch !!.... That's probably why it's not there on later models

I wish my van had a handle there to aid in opening and closing my door - it weighs a bloody ton!

Re: Sliding door - internal handle
I bought a Landrover Discovery grab handle and mounted it on the window sill. My Sussex doesn't have a blind on the door, only a curtain, so the window sill is clear.

Re: Sliding door - internal handle
I put two layers of self adhesive velcro, one on top of the other on the top rail the door rollers run on. These are positioned such that the door only opens to the point where the bathroom wall is, (Warwick Duo). In that way the door is only, perhaps 1/3rd fully open. If I want it fully open, toilet cassette etc, then the rollers imply pass over the velcro and the door goes to fully open
Total cost, circa 10p!

Re: Sliding door - internal handle
I've done that with adhesive felt dots. Then I sprayed the tracks with silicon, chain grease and dry oil (not all at the same time) in a bid to quieten the door slam and to make the slam easier. The rollers pick up the oil, run over the felt dot and eventually remove the dot. So it's either the dot-stop or easier closing, can't have both.
