gear box oil how to replace?
Hi all, I tried to change the gear box oil in our 1999 Peugeot Boxer 2.0 Litre petrol model, to day (Saturday) but with no success according to Russek Manual all you do is ' disconnect the cable and then the reversing light switch'. But I have failed, first the cable will not come off, how is this? on the light switch there is a chrome clip is this ment to move?, as I can not move it, can anybody shed some light on where I am going wrong please.
Thanks in anticipation. Stuart

Bearing in mind that my gearbox is an earlier model that yours.
Disconnect which cable? speedo, throttle, clutch?
You have me stumped with the chrome clip too - sorry?
I remove the air filter trunking, unclip the harness from the reverse light switch and then unscrew the switch.
No cables or chrome clips?
Frank

You could try thr search facility at the top of the page, "gearbox oil change" and read how I did the job on my 2005 2.2 van.

Re: gear box oil how to replace?
I've refilled my gearbox after a clutch change - you loose the oil when the driveshafts are withdrawn - and I'm pretty sure I didn't have to resort to filling the box through the reversing light switch.
Peugeot ServiceBox shows there to be a drain plug (15) and a "Casing Plug" (16) which I assume is the filler (no guarantees - proceed with caution). See the diagram below.

Hope this helps.

There are filler/level and drain plugs on mine Stuart.
It's just more convenient to fill via the reverse switch hole.

Understood Frank.
On my Mk2 Boxer I don't recall the reverse light switch being particularly accessible. I think the air cleaner and ducts need to be removed to facilitate access (sorry Frank, just realised that you said this in your posting). However I can't say whether the plug 'round the back' is any more easy to get at!

Re: gear box oil how to replace?
Just to add to this, I had my van, 2lt diesel, serviced last week and asked the mechanic to change the gearbox oil. It's supposed to last the life of the vehicle, but I thought at almost 50k miles it might as well be done.
Although there's a drain plug, there's no filler. He filled it through the breather on top of the box.
