Cab step
I know this has been discussed before but my searches have been inconclusive. I now have a Swift coachbuilt on a Fiat chassis but I think the post is still relevant.
Has anybody fitted a short running board type step to their van? The reach up to get into the van is close to the limit of my flexibility which I can't see improving. I would like something about level with the bottom of the chassis to give that extra step.
I have found These but they are full length for panel vans so I don't think they would be suitable for a coachbuilt.
My search did reveal somebody (Roli?) had fitted an electric step but I would prefer a fixed solution.

Re: Cab step
Hi Dave
Somebody (Roli I think) kindly sent me details of just such a fixed step made by PWS from Poole in Dorset.
https://pwsacc.co.uk/motorcaravan-equipment
I contacted them and they sent me details which I may be able to find. Not cheap (£120 per side I seem to recall?) but now you have reminded me I think I may be getting a pair. The ancient kneecaps protest ever more loudly!!
There are pictures of the steps at the bottom of their web page, and fitting them looked pretty straightforward.
I'll have a look and come back if I find anything useful.

Re: Cab step
Thanks Dave. Not necessarily the prettiest solution but certainly worth looking at. And far nicer than not being able to get out when up on levelling ramps.

Thanks Paul.
I think our friends who live in Poole may get a surprise visit from us soon.

Re: Cab step
There are some photos on here somewhere of the Thule electric step we had fitted to our cab. Not cheap but very effective and wired through the ignition

Re: Cab step
I need a hand up as I walk with two walking sticks.
I find them a help, I chose the essenjay steps over the pws step as they seem flatter you can't get the whole of your foot ( only sideways) but they definitely help.

These are on our back burner too. As we have the same cab as yourself, perhaps you could keep me posted on your research/action? Cheers, dbroada wrote:Thanks Paul.

Re: Cab step
I've not got any fitted yet but here is an update anyway.
I emailed both Poole companies to ask if i could view their product.
PWS didn't have any in stock but did send me lots of photos. Heather declared them ugly so I thought it unlikely that we would be getting them! These are £295 fitted or £260 without fitting. When I'm back on my PC I can post some more of their photos if required.
Essanjay were happy for us to visit at any time which we did yesterday, shortly after the owner should have left for a weekend break. His product is a stainless steel step with a chromed tube making it look pretty. At £369 fitted considerably dearer than the PWS offering but tempting enough for us to be back there on Monday to have them fitted.
He said he hasn't fitted steps to a Euro 6 Peugeot yet and is aware the adblue pump might get in the way but mine is a Fiat so no problems there.
When I asked my supplying dealer if a step could be fitted he said the jacking point was in the way but both companies have assured me that that is not the case.

Re: Cab step
Thanks Dave - useful info.
I think I can live with "ugly" if the pretty ones are that much, although I may be over ruled by the same management executive as you were!!
Can't decide at the moment, but I think the elderly knees will decide for me before too long.

Re: Cab step
Thanks for the update Dave, I've been in touch with PWS and got their photos and prices but have not contacted Essanjay yet and would be grateful if you can post pictures of your installation when it is completed.
Helen hasn't given negative feedback about the PWS ones, perhaps I shouldn't show pictures of the Essanjay ones!!
Do you know if Essanjay do supply only as I live 300 miles away and have no plans at the moment to be going that way. The PWS ones look reasonably easy to fit from the photos and the price difference between supply and fitted would indicate not much labour time is involved.
Thanks in advance Mike

Re: Cab step
Steve (the Ess bit) said he didnt like supplying as postage & packaging is more hassle for him than just fitting them. Im sure he was about to offer to fit them for us when we were there but Jane (the and jay part) gave him 'that' look. I'm guessing from that they don't take too long to fit.
I'll update on Monday..

Re: Cab step
Hi Essenjay Steps the fitting was included in the price, Having looked at both the deal for me was the essenjay step was flat whereas the PWS one was rounded on the edge and no grip matting of course this may have changed as mine were done last year.
someone said the PWS ones were a cut down version of the long camper van step, dosen't mean it's a correct statement though.
Nearly a year on though and the step still looks like new despite camping in the beast from the east.lol

Re: Cab step
Thanks for posting the photos, I can see why you went for them, they look really good. I think I prefer them to the PWS ones.
Why is Poole the centre for cab steps, I've not seen anybody else advertising them apart from these two companies.
