Luss CCC site, Loch Lomond
I'm currently sat in my hired Swift with a Duetto to my left and a Warwick to my right.

Its been a beautiful day for a paddle in the loch. Good stargazing to be had from the north end of the site away from light! Wish we were there !

Re: Luss CCC site, Loch Lomond
The clouds always came out whenever we got out of the van so no stargazing for us. Fortunately no midges either. There were some the other side of the loch but they didn't bother us. We have started going south now so we expect to outrun them.

Re: Luss CCC site, Loch Lomond
Only been there once years ago, our first experience of midges. We were amused to see locals wearing nets on their heads, but soon wished we had them. We even had a fab Lochside pitch, but surrendered and left. Enjoy it while midge free!

They don’t take prisoners full stop. Natives get murdered the same as everyonekaspian wrote:Any breeze and they stay well away but on a still evening watch out! They dont take prisoners of sassenachs!

And I was thinking I had been left alone because I had "locally caught haggis" for lunch. It was very nice but I would have preferred them to have caught a slightly smaller one.

Re: Luss CCC site, Loch Lomond
I was at Luss a few years ago during the Open golf and a BBC film crew were staying on site. They sat out at night having a few beers and were eaten alive. I felt sorry for them and gave them a spare bottle of Avon skin so soft which they tried and to a man said that it worked wonders. I ended up letting them keep the bottle as after a week they were ready to mutiny!

You don’t see midgies Mike !! Well not until they form a cloud round your head anyway. But when the weather warms up they’re everywhere unless there’s a breeze about 4mph.

Re: Luss CCC site, Loch Lomond
Anyone heading north of the border and worried about the "midge" should call into the Keilder forest area and get aclimatised first.
The midge there are border raiders and a wee taster for what could be waiting along the west coastal areas.
Like Paul we were midge free until we came down the west side towards Ullapool.
Happy Holidays.

We've been touring lower areas of Scotland (Dumfries and Galloway, across country via Lanark to Edinburgh) since 17 April and haven't seen a midge yet. Been too wet and windy.

Enjoy it. We had a fantastic time, good weather, wonderful roads and not too many campervans getting in our way!
BTW if you see any petrol for sale always fill up there are not many petrol stations around but a few self service pumps but not always working. I took a petrol can in the boot just in case.

Re: Luss CCC site, Loch Lomond
Just took the notion for a trip to Luss or Millarochy Bay , 2 nights , this weekend . Minimum three night stay , no availability etcetc Confirmed what I already thought . The CCC are not geared up for camper vans/ motorhomes and their frustrating policies are becoming ever more restrictive.
This after spending a wonderful week last year at A private site outside Broughty Ferry with a very friendly welcome. Tried to book a 1 night stay at Scone CCC. denied online so spent 1 hour trying to call without success. Eventually turned up on spec at 12.20pm. Reception closed so knocked on door as there were 4 working inside.one looked up and shouted cant you read the sign , we're closed for lunch!
I apologised and asked if they could hold a pitch for that night as we were going into Perth for an appointment after 1pm. The warden then opened the door stepped out and proceeded to stare at all the signs in the window for what seemed an awkward age like Basil Fawlty. Eventually I broke the awkward silence by repeating my request. He eventually said the sign giving regulations on opening times etc WAS MISSING and grunted that a pitch would be kept . My wife watching from the cab just wanted to leave but we did return later and were one of around 20 campers on the site so hardly busy! Some site managers do need customer care courses! At least thats a few quid saved on renewal....

Thanks Mike, my SLK is a diesel with a range of over 600 miles so I should have no fuel problems.
I notice this morning, the weather forecast for next week has taken a dip unfortunately.

Re: Luss CCC site, Loch Lomond
We have been touring the UK for about a month staying at a mixture of sites including CCC ones. I have encountered a couple of people who appear to be trying to show that "the friendly club" is purely ironic. If their oldies rate wasn't so good I don't think we would renew.

Re: Luss CCC site, Loch Lomond
So far on our tour of southern Scotland, we've stayed on 3 CAMC sites (none pre-booked), 1 commercial site (not pre-booked) and one CL (phoned ahead to check) and 1 C&CC site (not pre-booked). Thought better check for BH weekend and couldn't get on any club site. Checked for THS's and rallies but none at all happening over BH anywhere in southern Scotland. Plan was to go over border to Northumberland but all club sites full except got last pitch at Nunnykirk so have booked that. Apart from BH all club sites are actually very quite up here.

Paul, we are also in Scotland but are heading home this weekend. Having totally overlooked it being a bank holiday we now can't find sites with spaces for my planned jumps, and we have to move on tomorrow as this site is full.

It may have gone off topic but it doesn't appear that the two vans I was parked between have replied.

Have you thought of a pub stop?
There are loads of them and you get a very cheap pub supper if you subtract what it would have cost you to stay on a site. Plus you can have a drop of ale since there's no driving afterwards. PUB STOPS
We find a quick phone call best. You can then ask if it's necessary to book a table, and that reassures the landlord that you are not a freeloader! A fair few pubs have stopped having motorhomes overnight because of those self centred idiots.
