Sealant for Carver
Hi
Doing some maintenance to van, took out Carver Cascade to clean up. Wondering what best sealant to use when putting it back.

Re: Sealant for Carver
Last one I did, I used silicone sealant - the rationale being that anything like Sikaflex is too good an adhesive, which would make it hard to remove subsequently. I was fortunate in that mine was on a Transit with Ivory paint, so I could get a silicone sealant that matched the paint almost exactly - so what little was visible on the outside was almost invisible.
I also sprayed waxoyl-type rust treatment onto the rear of the vehicle side panel below the Carver, as that area is notorious for rusting - but you have to wipe any overspray off the outside before putting the heater in, of course.

Bostik Simson.
Near perfect for all of our glue needs. Use the Bostik "M" primer first

Went to isolate the gas supply to the carver - 4 taps under the sink - not labelled!!
Presume 1 for heater, 1 for fridge, other 2 for cooking - is it a separate supply for hob/grill and then oven??
Trial and error to locate correct tap.

Heater, water heater, fridge and cooker? Your van could have separate heater and water heater.

Carver replaced, water fittings checked out fine. Still not isolated gas, need to do that in morning. Still not sure why 4 gas taps - fridge yes, carver yes, cooker yes.
Heater is a Trumatic E2400 - never used it, is it both gas and electric?? Might explain 4th tap.

Thanks, of course it is!! - as witnessed by the Truma vent on outside of van. Muppett moment. Off to seal the Carver then lable up the gas taps for future reference.daisy mae wrote:Heater is 4th tap , mine is both gas and electric, .would think yours was too.
Steep learning curve - filled and tested water yesterday, thanks to this site did it correctly and got water flowing nicely from all taps.

O how wrong I was. On closer inspection all taps are labelled, just a right angles to front view.JandL wrote:Went to isolate the gas supply to the carver - 4 taps under the sink - not labelled!!

I know no silly questions, but on seems to be in the horizontal position.
So is off vertical or 180 degree turn?

Re: Sealant for Carver
Horizontal or vertical depends on your pipe layout, as the ON position should have the tap in line with the outlet pipe.
The usual orientation is vertical for off, horizontal for on.

Thanks for replies, assumed a 90degree rotation between on/off. Forgot about pipe orientation. Mine are vertical and clearly labelled.
