Kingham - Drive away awnings
Hello
I wonder if anyone has some tips about attaching a drive away awning to the van.
We've a Kingham and have just bought an Attar 440 awning today.
At the moment I've fastened it to the roof bars with the three Velcro strips that are supplied.
Do you think we need the figure of eight drive away kit as well ?
We'd really appreciate any advice anyone can give.
It might save a marriage lol

Re: Kingham - Drive away awnings
I prefer attaching mine to the Fiamma canopy with a figure of 8 and Kador strip.
I wind the canopy out a bit, which brings it down to a nice height to reach up to and slide the Kador strip in. Once in and the awning attached, I wind it back in and it tensions the tunnel section.
I would need stepladders to fasten mine to the roof bars !
If the wind and rain blows across your van roof from the driver's side, is there anything to stop it getting under your awning and running down in to your open side door, or have you not had that yet.
The Kador strip helps prevent that from happening.

Brilliant advice, thank you. Never though about the rain ! I think we'll buy the figure of eight and Kador strip but not use it if it's settled weather. The wife can shin up on the roof in seconds so need for ladders lol.
Sorry to be a pain but how did you fix your canoe to the roof ? We'd love to take our little kayaks ...

If you've got kayaks, then you should know better than to upset my fishing kayak by calling it a canoe
I took the van to Kari-Tek at Ayr [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and they fitted a 'High Lift' roof system that drops down the side of the van for easier single handed loading.
Your van will need load bearing longitudinal roof rails fitted, as the standard AS rails are purely cosmetic.
1. Load low & strap

2. Winch it high

3. Slide & lock out

Shock and awe. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to put these beautiful pictures up. It looks a perfect solution but expensive!
I'll argue with the wife that it should come out of her housekeeping budget lol.
Cheers

The advice given by Wargenwolf is sound. The Kardor strip plus figure-of-eight is quick, easy to attach and get it just right, detaches in seconds, is waterproof and will withstand all but the most severe weather. Keith
