Re: Mobile Wifi
There are several options.
I like a Huawei MiFi and "3" PAYG DATA SIM, mostly because the MiFi can be positioned for the best signal in remote places.
We have a Huawei e5331 and an e5332 (which has an external aerial socket).

Re: Mobile Wifi
I also have a Huawei with 3 SIM . 12gb or 12 months whichever comes first, £30 from 3 shop but available from Amazon cheaper usually. I also have my phone on O2 so a choice if one signal not available.

Ditto....
I order the 12 month data sim from 3, it lasts 12 month ...or less if you use it all!
12 gig for £30.00. However, I do not top them up although you can if you wish but it's expensive that way!
Best I've seen or used!

HI Frazzle, yes the hauwei is good , I have 4g sim 6GB for 12 months ,cost £16.99 on Amazon, don't bother with the exterior aerial its more effective to just move it around to get the best signal Regards Paul

Another Hauwei user with 3 12 GB data SIM cards from Amazon. Not had a problem with it in U.K. Can be used abroad, but I have no experience of using it, so need to check 3 website for countries covered and conditions.

Re: Mobile Wifi
I used the 3 sim over the winter in France, Spain and Portugal. The signal was very good.
You can use it with "feel at home" in, I think, the whole of the EU. The web site will tell you.
I've just changed my mobile phone to Three with 8gb data a month. Just hope I can use that as successfully.

Re: Mobile Wifi
Also a Huawei user with a £30 " 3 " PAYG 12 month sim from eBay bought two last year, still on the first one, just back today from Norfolk, it worked brilliantly no problem getting a signal, as quick as at home and do have the fibre broadband at home .Highly recommended,
I have "3" PAYG sim on my phone, do not have any contracts for anything, I prefer to pay as I go.

We are PAYG with BT, a few weeks ago we were in Switzerland and OH decided to upload some pics to Facebook but forgot to turn roaming off, £71.00 I kid you not .

Re: Mobile Wifi
You make a good point Matt, also make sure you have automatic updates of apps turned off which can use quite a a lot without you noticing.
With a pre paid Sim at least you can't run up a large bill, it just stops working when you have used all the data.

Re: Mobile Wifi
I'm with 3 with a 30GB / 12 month data SIM. Only using a 3G MiFi unit, but pretty good results. I also have a 3 phone with 8GB of data a moth so I tend to tether devices to the phone in the UK and use the MiFi whilst in France. (can't tether phone abroad, but you can still use internet on it OK).

Just to be different.......I've got a TP-Link mi-fi with the 3 PAYG data sim. So far, impressed with coverage and speed.

Re: Mobile Wifi
I too use a TP - Link and purchase one off sim cards through Amazon or similar. I used to have an EE account where I added data as necessary but found this a very cumbersome process and have found the annual 'new sim each time' card simpler. The 30 day card didn't really work for me.
The TP-Link has been faultless for me with no problems whichever service provider I have used.

Re: Mobile Wifi
If i buy one of these devices unlocked, i can use any sim card from any mobile company, say i put a 3 sim in when that runs out can i put a o2 sim in or will i have to use whatever is the first sim i put in.
If that makes sense.

Re: Mobile Wifi
I see most of replies above use 3 is there some reason for that as ee as much better coverage.

Re: Mobile Wifi
3 rates are the cheapest of all, 3p per min. if phone is unlocked any sim can be used regardless of the first one.

If the device is unlocked you can use any operators' SIM in it (the only caveat being that it has to support the correct bands, not a problem with European devices but could be an issue with some USA SIMs)

It used to be that only "3" had the "Feel at Home" option, to use the SIM in various countries as well as the UK.
Now Vodafone have a similar plan, and there will soon be changes to EU roaming laws.

Re: Mobile Wifi
3 is more flexible than EE. I use the 12GB/12 month 3 sim, which you can use as you wish, all in in a week if you want whereas EE 12GB card only lets you use 2GB per month and lasts for 6 months. Both are fairly similar in price.
Not a problem of coverage in U.K. But I have not used it abroad.
