LPG Fill point
Wonder if anyone could help?
I have recently purchased a couple of 6kg Gaslow cylinders (locker won't take the larger size) I don't like the idea of siting the filler either inside the locker or in the locker door. My intention is to fit the point in the side of the van beside the locker door so that the fill hose goes into the locker, I'll need to pluck up the courage to drill the 70mm hole.
Question, is has anyone done this or similar, and am I likely to encounter any strengthening ribs or other metalwork buried in the side panel?
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks
Phil

Re: LPG Fill point
Hi Phil
I think it might be better if you put it in the skirt. I don't know your van so it might not be feasible, but it would certainly be easier and less terrifying if you could. The hose could then be routed up through the drop-out grille in a bottom corner of the gas locker, with a rubber grommet to protect against sharp edges of course.
That's how I did a previous Nuevo and it was about as good a solution as it gets.
Hope that helps.

Re: LPG Fill point
Hi Dave
Thanks for the quick reply, I have looked at the skirt option but on the Rienza they're curved and pretty flimsy. I may still go there, perhaps with some plywood bonded inside to strengthen.
I off to a local dealer shortly to see if they would be willing to cut the hole for me - they'll hopefully have some experience...
I'll let you know how it goes.
Kind regards
Phil

Re: LPG Fill point
Hi Dave
Update:
I took the van to our local caravan and motorhome dealer early on Saturday morning. The mechanic took a look and at first he suggested the skirt option as well. I explained that I preferred to have the filler up a little higher and solidly mounted straight into the locker.
As it was early, he offered to drill the hole there and then! - result a nice clean hole and tidy installation.
I thought to mention a) because I'm over the moon with the result, and b) the info might be useful for other Rienza owners.
I'd post a picture but I'm afraid I don't know how.
Thanks for your interest
Phil

Thanks for the update Phil. I'm sure it will be of interest to others.
You might like to look at this, which I posted only a few minutes ago.

You may never fully recoup the investment, but the convenience of being able to top up as you wish and before the bottles are empty, plus the ease of getting gas abroad, makes it probably one of the best mods you will have fitted.

Re: LPG Fill point
Our recently purchased Inca came with a 'Gas It' refillable conversion, the fill point had been fitted into the door/access to the tank compartment (in 2014), and is very secure.
