Cleaning toilet waste tank.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that one can clean a toilet waste tank by disolving a dishwasher tablet in water and allowing the fluid to remain in the tank for 24 hrs will completely clean the residue from the mechanism. Can any one confirm this please or advise otherwise.

Re: Cleaning toilet waste tank.
Just using some bio detergent should suffice.
Dishwasher tablets work by being abrasive and need the action of the dishwasher to work properly.

I've heard of people using kettle de-scaler. No idea if it works, but it sounds as if it should.
No doubt there are loads of patent recipes, but just be aware of possible damage to any metalwork in there if you use anything very aggressive.
The genuine article is said to work very well, but it's not exactly cheap.

Hi constable,
I would one-third fill the cassette with warm water then add bio detergent/dishwasher tablet/half a dozen steradent - then turn it upside down for 24hrs.
Perhaps you could sequentially try all three and report back...........

Re: Cleaning toilet waste tank.
I give it a good long soak with the genuine Thetford stuff a couple of times a year, keeps it clean and sweet for around £2 a go. First time I ever did it loads of scale came out; the fluid didn't appear to dissolve it, rather it seemed to loosen it so it came free of the sides in large flakes. Kettle descaler would probably dissolve it but might need several strong doses to get it completely clear. Also the Thetford stuff leaves the insides shiny which seems to discourage new buildup forming.
PS It's a pound cheaper at leisureshopdirect.com than on Amazon!

Re: Cleaning toilet waste tank.
For several years now we just use 1 or 2 Bio washing tablets in the toilet waste tank instead of any type of toilet fluid. This seems to work satisfactory and is safe to empty in most places, this keeps the inside of the tank like new no clogged up mechanism etc.
