Problem with the alarm system
Experiencing a problem with the alarm/horn and wondered if anyone else had a similar problem. Camping in St. Davids last September around midnight the alarm suddenly started up and the only way to stop it was to disconnect the battery, hoping no to have disturbed the rest of the campsite. The next day decided the only answer was to return home as we couldn't lock the van and leave it unattended for fear of the alarm going off again. The van went into the garage for an MOT and the Engineer thought the problem stemmed from the activator on the driver door and fitted a new one (costing £280). The problem still persists and the Duetto is now on my drive with the battery disconnected and we are unable to use it until a solution is found. Has anyone got a suggestion please? I'd love to hear from you.

Hi Jim
You will need, if you can, supply more information on the alarm.
Make model etc
It will be difficult for forum members to accurately help you.

Jim, As PB says, what make/model etc is your alarm is it a retro fitted unit linked to you vans horn, or a stand alone unit. is it a Ford Factory fit? Some retro alarms can can de-activated from a small control panel (Cobra alarm )

Re: Problem with the alarm system
Might need to get your local alarm installer to look at it, diagnose where the problem is and replace / repair / remove.
Alarms can be fitted in a variety of places, so just locating it and all the sensors could be difficult. Understanding how it works and how to silence it yet still allow you to drive the van is not going to be simple. If it was the naughty boys would simply turn it off and steal the van and / or it's contents.
Look for auto alarms in yellow pages.

Re: Problem with the alarm system
Have a look at the immobiliser relay and check that's in sound condition. Your alarm will be wired into that and that relay recently caused me no end of problems on my van. It's in a large black box inside the engine bay on the n/s (driver). The relay is small (mine was brown in colour) and due to the location is subject to damp. The terminals had corroded and the block also had to be replaced.
If you can't find a mobile alarm fitter to check your system it's well worth considering a mobile auto-electrician. Reputable ones who "know their stuff" will often be fully booked so be prepared to wait a few days!

Re: Problem with the alarm system
Thank you Bulletguy. That might be the answer, as we had endured a very wet and windy day in Newgale, Wales prior to our problem appearing. Will have a look under the bonnet and see.

I would do an internet search for vehicle alarm installers Otley area.
Something should come up....then check out any reviews on them.
