First port of call must be Autosleeper spares dept. If no luck, then may be worth a call to these people who I believe can make to order

These do occasionally turn up on Ebay, though you may have to wait a while...
Did you buy it via a dealer? If so it may be worth writing to the previous owner via their address on the V5. The missing panel(s) are probably sitting in the loft of a previous owner.

If you can't find one you could always get a carpenter to make you one (or two)
Found this from my Trident days http://autosleeper.vwt4camper.info/index.html

So it's not just me that has doubts about whether there should be two or three? The ones from our Trooper are several miles away (in a loft, surprisingly!) so I can't check, but I ~thought~ there were three. Perhaps I'm just remembering that wrong though.

Re: VW T4 Auto trooper uptop bed.
...my T5 Trooper has three boards...and don't forget the net, a mini-tennis net across the front, to stop anybody falling through the gap.
If you're making your own then it's up to you how many to make, as long as you bear in mind the combined thickness of them when stacked, so they still fit under the lowered roof.
Like many, mine are not used, stored in the house along with the metal ladder. No need to carry extra weight around.
Not all Troopers had them, they were always an option when new...it's logical to think that anyone needing the extra sleeping capacity would choose to buy the Trident instead.

The trident bed is not so roomy as the trooper ie. is narrower from roof to bed

Re: VW T4 Auto trooper uptop bed.
Again thanks for the details, I rang AS you are right they are shut, so will try again in the new year, good tip about storage and net ! ( I did wonder about the net and was going to create something anyway ) The one board on the van now is quite big so I assume 1 other board ... going to dig out the log book again - you never know the previous owner may have it !!! ( fingers crossed )

The Trooper has two boards up top and also has two small cushions that fit in the gap at the rear of of bed which are normally stored in the underbed drawer.
Let us know how you get on with AS as may need to replace mine shortly.

Ours didn't! I wonder if this is a T4 based Trooper item (ours is T5 based from 2006), or perhaps whether the previous owner had them made up. Do they fit between the rearmost part of the bed and the tailgate?

Hi Mojo
Yep these are at the head end of the bed which is the tailgate end, there is a dip that they slot into that the boards only push up to, but mine is a 1993 so may have differed over time.

Sure not a problem at all, if you can hang on until the weekend and I will get photos of them in place and laid out so you can see with sizes etc, not 100% sure how to upload photos to this site yet so may need some assistance
I am not sure on the 9mm ply and foam but seems reasonable.

Re: VW T4 Auto trooper uptop bed.
Hi Claire
As promised pictures of the roof top bed of my 93 Trooper, this had the two boards and then the small parts to fill the gap at the tailgate end.
Measurements are
47" x 27" each board
8.5" x 23.5" on each small section (2 in total)
The large sections of board are around 1 3/4" in depth with 50% of that being padding.
The small sections are all padding as they sit on the solid built in lip of the van.
Please take these measurements as approximate as it is never easy getting exact with the fabric on, I would get them measured by a carpenter if having them built from new.
Also you may be able to tell in the picture there is a lip on the first board (tail gate end) that the last board sits on when pushed into place.
Sorry about beige on beige, largest floor i could lay them out to get a photo.
Hope this helps.
