Knocking from front N/F
Good day all. We have just come back from a few days in Burnham on Sea and on the way back
a strange noise started from the font nearside. At first we thought it was coming from somewhere
inside but after several stops to re-arrange stuff it's still there even on smooth road surfaces.
This is on a 2013 Dorset with just over 14k miles. The noise starts around 45-48 MPH and is not
a constant knocking but comes and goes. It sounds like metal tapping on something. Easily
heard in the cab.
Steering and braking make no difference. De-clutching doesn't change it either. So my thought is could
it be the CV joint?
I have never had to change a CVJ so don't know what a worn one sounds like.
Any comments gratefully received.

You really need to get it up on a ramp with the suspension free so you can see what's loose. Our Boxer has done a lot more miles than yours but a similar knocking turned out to be a slight play on a steering rack inner joint that my mechanic says is not an issue yet. But yours could be something completely different.

Worn CV joints make a constant noise when put on full lock. Try driving round an empty car park in both directions.

Thanks both for your comments. I have arranged a visit to a garage on Friday. And the noise seems to be there no matter what I do with the steering or brakes but as it only appears at over 45 MPH I'm off to find a very large carpark Paul! I washed it today and I'm going for a drive just in case it's something simple, like a twig catching. Mind you it will have to be a metal twig by the noise it makes.

Well took the van in and kel surprise no noise!
But. At around 3AM Saturday a thought struck me. What if it was the radio aerial on the van?
Later, much later, on inspection I saw the aerial had been knocked close enough to the rollout canopy to tap on it when at speed. Bending it out slightly fixed that until the next time I hit a tree branch.
Who'd have thought?
But at least I know that the front suspension is all OK.
