Window trim
We have a 2015 Warwick XL, there is a carpet trim around the inside of the windows. The trim has come away on all windows, anybody else experienced this and does anyone have a solution.

Re: Window trim
No answer re DIY but the obvious one is to take it back to the dealer to get it fixed as I assume it's still under guarantee.

Re: Window trim
Yes I have the same problem and a few more on our 2015/2016 Duo.
I have read about using wood glue as some adhesives have been know to show through the trim in time.
As the van is going back once again in two weeks for work on the reversing camera/monitor I will let Dolphin sort it out.

Re: Window trim
I would suggest that carpet spray adhesive would probably be best . Its what was used to fix it when built.
If you look for 'carpet lining' on ebay you should find someone selling the spray adhesive too.
I tried a hot glue gun on my lining once....made a right old mess .

Carpet Spray Adhesive, I used to glue the lining carpet on my cab seats bases, recommended by an auto reupholster.

Re: Window trim
I have already tried spray carpet adhesive, my son is a carpet fitter. Unfortunately it has come loose again, I'm on my way to the dealer so I will see what they say. I'm just concerned that they will stick it down and it will come loose again, I live a considerable distance from the dealer. I think this is something Autosleepers need to resolve as it is not an isolated problem.

the surfaces need to be properly and meticulously prepared if they are to stick permenantly.
The adhesive needs to be applied to both surfaces and left a considerable time before attempting to put them together.
Because carpet is pourous it may be necessary to apply a second spray of adhesive to the carpet when the first has had time to 'set' before closing .
Overhead or vertical carpet may require support whilst the adhesive sets completely otherwise the weight of the carpet will slowly pull the carpet off by gravity.
its a skilled job and a DIYer can't expect to achieve the same results as a professional. I've been painting for over 50 years and I can still make a mess of it due to inadequate preparation and application

Re: Window trim
When I did covered my lowered seat base to put a swivel on the passenger side, used carpet spray adhesive, the swivel didn`t work that well as there isn`t is not enough room from the settee for comfort, so I took the base out and had to remove the carpet I had sprayed glued on, it was a job and a half couldn`t believe how well it had stuck, had to get carpet off and clean the base with sticky stuff remover, then sold it on eBay, had to buy a standard seat base, recover both bases as couldn`t get the green lining carpet anymore, so did them in black which AS told me they do all their seat bases now in black.
I am now a dab hand at taking out seat bases and recovering.
Good luck with your window trim.
Best regards,
Margaret

Re: Window trim
I masked all the windows, sprayed both sides with a generous coating of adhesive and left to dry. I then stuck them together and they seemed to be well.bonded. A week later they started to come apart, bottoms top and sides, the glue was supplied by my son who is a carpet fitter. I am thinking of using evo stick contact adhesive, I will wait and see what the dealer has to say.

Re: Window trim
I would recommend you use the special high temperature carpet lining adhesive that is supplied by the carpet suppliers . Sticking Lining carpet to vertical metal surfaces is nothing like sticking a domestic carpet to a floor where you have gravity to help keep it in place.
its very important to press the carpet firmly in place to exclude any air bubbles and professionals use special rollers that you can apply a lot of force to the carpet to squeegy out the air . Its no good just pressing it with your fingers or the palm of your hand as it probably won't stick.
The other imporant thing to do is to clear any trace of the previous adhesive residue then wipe any hard surfaces over with a special degreaser and you may need to rough the surface a little to give the adhesive a good key particulary if you've removed an existing carpet from the surface

Re: Window trim
Yes, I had the same problem with my 1yr old Warwick Duo. Took it to Marquis for habitation check and have the linings all re-attached. One month later and they are starting to peel again.
If you are a competent DIY'r I would suggest you use a good contact adhesive and do it yourself.
Mask off around the area with newspaper to avoid drips which will be difficult to remove. That is what I am doing now.

Re: Window trim
As one or two others have mentioned Carpet spray adhesive was used to originally fit, but for it to come away on a 2 year old van??? Sorry but that's unacceptable shoddy workmanship. Take it back to the dealers.
It can be done as a 'diy' job as i managed to fit new lining to an old van i had some years ago and i have zero carpeting skills! However both the lining and spray adhesive was quite expensive. I bought both from a local motorhome conversion specialist who used the same stuff. Once sprayed on you have to 'get it right' first time as it bonds very quickly.

Window Trim
I have a Kingham and have used double-sided tape which so far has been successful.

Re: Window trim
This problem of the felt trim coming away has also appeared on my 2018 Warwick Duo. As I doubt a warranty repair will be to a higher standard than the original I opted for a DIY fix using Gorilla Double Sided Mounting Tape (Clear) My initial assessment is it will be a long lasting solution and this tape is a perfect width for the job. Two points - it's not cheap at nearly £6 for a 1·5m roll and it is not easy to get the backing strip to start peeling. If it fails I will place another post.

Re: Window trim
I have a 2016 kemerton xl and had the same problem.
I have stapled through the carpet into the wood with a heavy duty stapler.
The staples are hardly visable and will not be affected by the heat which i think is the cause of the first adhesive failure.

Good idea. That can be my plan B. I just hope the trim does not lift from the edge facing the window .

2017 Kingham..... Only one of my bedroom windows had this problem and I also went down the staple route. I used copper or copper coated staples and they’re virtually invisible as the carpet pile hides them once they hit home.D40DJH wrote:I have a 2016 kemerton xl and had the same problem.
