leisure battery fuse...
hi all.
this is probably a very dumb question, i have a 99 symphony, when we got it the leisure battery was dead, so we just ran off hook up all the time. however i have decided to replace the old one with a new Banner unit.
the problem is whenever i try to connect up the terminals, the 30amp fuse under the seat is blowing.
do i have to disconnect the vehicle battery aswell, or am i missing something equally obvious...
when i took out the old battery, the old fuse was fine. also when i bought the van the hab check said charging was fine. that means nothing really thou i guess...
cheers.
steve.

I can't help with your particular vehicle but do you mean that the fuse is blowing the instant you connect the battery or just some time latter.
Normally you wouldn't need to disconnect the vehicle battery first.

At least that means the fuse is doing its job.
This implies the new battery is trying to power something or is being shorted directly to 0 volts. I assume your van has a control unit which is where I have to leave the diagnosis to people with experience. All my vans have been "hard wired"and an hour with a multimeter would usually find a fault.
Good luck. I am sure it is something simple.

Sorted. A complete case of mechanical/electrical ineptitude.
I am too embarrased to admit too. Thanks for the replies.

Embarrassed - You can't leave it like that - I might need to know what not to do in the future with my Duetto (same vintage as yours)steviecoles28 wrote:Sorted. A complete case of mechanical/electrical ineptitude.

Ok then just to make you chuckle!!, my new battery had the polarity reversed. The terminals sit at the front of the battery compartment now instead of at the back!!!. Told you it was embarassing.....

Re: leisure battery fuse...
Sounds just like the sort of thing I would do - half the mind on the job in hand - half elsewhere in my case. Thanks

So who supplied the new battery? They should have checked such a thing because it is possible that your cables would not have reached the opposite side. Or have you simply put it in place the wrong way round?
