What's a Habitation Check?
Hi All,
A couple of (hopefully simple) queries really...what is a habitation check, and should I plan for one when buying a second hand campervan?
Thanks!

Re: What's a Habitation Check?
Hello,
Yes - you should factor in an annual hab check, just as you'd factor in an annual vehicle service. It may indeed be a condition of warranty. But in any event, it's sensible to have one carried out by a competent person. With the A/S paperwork there's usually a comprehensive list of all the required and recommended checks. Some are obvious: does everything work? Some will be concerned with safety inspections (especially 240v and gas); some will be to service things like fridge or water-heater or air-heater (cleaning gas burner / elements); and some will be as to structural aspects (tightening various strategic fixings).
If you aim to keep the van, or sell it with a FSH, then don't skimp on it. You may well be qualified and inclined to do some of the work yourself, although by and large there's a fixed fee for the hab check. You can get mobile fitters to attend, or take it to an approved service place.

Thanks Cymro, very useful indeed.
I'll take your advice (when I find a van!).
