Remis skylight Empty Remis skylight

Post by batch Fri Mar 25, 2016 10:27 pm

Hello all.
Has anyone got any ideas on how to remove the fly screen and roller assembly fitted to a Remis wind-up skylight?  The reason for removing it is to either clean or replace the netting because the present one is covered in lots of mould spots and I don't think it is going to be easy to clean it in situ, unless someone knows different.

You will need to remove the outer frame that is held up against the ceiling, if you look carefully through very small holes in the frame you will be able to see the position of the fixings that are just pushed over a ball fixing, I used a wide plastic trim tool to ease the frame down. If you pm me I'll try and help you over the phone if you wish

Check out this post

I had the same problem on my 400mm square push up rooflight and, after speaking to Mark, took it apart to clean it. I documented the process with some photos.
Although your one is wind up I xuspect the orocess will be similar.
Perhaps you csn also post some photos of what you find?

Thanks Chris for your info & kind offer, I will pm you if I get stuck.
Thanks Ron for your detailed explanation of the removing and dismantling of your skylight, as they say ...... a picture is worth a 1000 words. As soon as I get a chance I will have a go at it, armed with your details. Thanks again to you both.

As a side issue once you have the screen off check to see if the screws fixing the window to the roof are still tight when I did mine last year I found that one of the fixing screws had worked loose and a little water was getting in.

Thanks for the tip David , it is something that I am going to have a good look at just in case the the mould on the fly screen is the result of a small leak, fairly unlikely  ( I hope ) as I have just had my habitation check done and there was no mention of any damp but then again there was no mention of the mould on the fly screen so you wonder how thorough these checks are.

There are instructions on repairing the winding mechanism on this site, which shows the way and sequence of removing the inner frame, may be of use.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Look under repair Instructions tab.

Thanks Peter, something else to refer to if I get stuck, also handy to know where I can get hold of spare should I need them.

Thanks for all suggestions . Have now removed skylight easy enough when you know how but not so easy without knowing how the skylight is attached to the roof anyway skylight out both the fly screen and the sun blind removed all cleaned and reassembled and re-fitted back in the van, before re-fitting I did check for leaks fortunately there weren't any but most of the screws attaching the frame to the roof were loose so all had a bit of a tighten. Now looking and working like new. So thanks again to  Chris,Ron,Peter&David for your advice.

Glad it all worked - I, too, was pleased when I did mine - but I did not think of checking the screws that fasten the outer part to the roof!  Doh! - one track mind, i suppose.
