What do you do about bins??
Hot on the heels of Wizbangs request for advice about clocks and cup-holders (I agree that we also do not 'leap into action immediately on waking!), what does everyone do with waste? The AS door bin on our Winchcombe is useless other than as a wine holder and we have resulted to hanging up 5p shopping bags above the cooker which are rather unsightly and also a bit of a safety issue noting that other binliners are unsuitable for food waste?
Anything floor mounted is likely to get in the way and we cant see anywhere to put a reasonable sized bin on the inside of a cupboard door! Any ideas gratefully received! Best wishes, Andy

We can't afford to hang up 5p bags, so use the light ones that you put fruit in at supermarkets. Just loop a bit of short bungee through the handles and they are strapped on a small wire rack above our sink unit.
OK not the most glamorous solution, but pretty practical. (Our Nuevo had a slide out bin within the under-sink cupboard, but that was pretty useless).

Re: What do you do about bins??
I have a door bin, bin liners inside , and empty regularly, nothing else seems to work for me, as you say, floor bins are in the way, plastic bags unsightly, then I don`t appear to create much rubbish. if there is recycling on site I use that.

We have a double over-door hook which we put over under sink cupboard and hang pedal bin liners, the ones with handles onto that.

Our door bin is pretty useless and our dog will get in it if we use it!
We use a pedal bin type liner hanging from one of the coat hooks by the Hab door. Just remember to chuck it away daily.

Re: What do you do about bins??
On our previous Nuevo which didn't have drawers under the sink, I made one inside the cupboard and used it as a bin. Mrs Gromit found a particular bin liner bag which stretched over the top perfectly, and it worked very well.
The current van does have fitted drawers but she can't stretch a bag over the top or it shows on the outside. So a suitable plastic box was found from a cheapie shop, and this fits quite snugly inside the top drawer. Luckily the same bin liners fit over it, so the Memsahib is happy once again!

Re: What do you do about bins??
We use the door bin, which we find very good. I put a supermarket bag inside ( one of a gigantic heap saved over many years of careful hoarding) and don't have leaks or spills. The lid clamps firmly shut so no smells either.
I've heard several people say they don't get on with the door bin but this is our 4th and all have been slightly different but wholly satisfactory. I'm intrigued to know what the problems are.

Problem - feet!
We must be a clumsy couple, because both of us manage to catch the door bin with our heel and knock it off - fairly regularly!
Plus it's quite small so the drawer bin is more convenient when there's nowhere nearby to dispose of it.
Not major problem either way - though I have a friend who swears his wife would choose a new van based purely on her opinion of the waste bin!!

How ??? !
I have this picture of you and Mrs Gromit exiting the van backwards with the door half open .
I think the Nuevo must have a different bin/ bin position. Ours has a quite big capacity; as much as a full Tesco polythene carrier bag, stuffed.
Don't you find the underside of the drawer above the bin becomes a little smeared with old veg and bits of pasta etc ?
If I was casting nasturtiums on Hartal doors I might add that the bin is in a good position to avoid smells as the draught from the leaky door and gas vent keeps it very cool in that area.

We can just about squeeze in 2 empty wine bottles although I do agree with Daisy M and we must try to recycle more - we do at home so I guess its just laziness on our behalf really.....

Morris Marina door handle!!!! How do I know this? My 1969 Lotus Elan has them- I thought that Colin Chapman had bought up the entire stock but seemingly not.
We found the tiny bin fitted to our 2015 Hartal door to be completely useless- too low, easily knocked off and with all the capacity of a large matchbox. We hang a swing-bin liner on the awning winder-handle, which clips adjacent to the door-frame. Not elegant but it lasts a day.

They were also used on many other vehicles as well, the same handles were in my old discovery I had many years ago!!

Re: What do you do about bins??
What in goodness name do you put in your bin that it only lasts one day and needs to be bigger than a standard carrier bag ?
A few bits of veg peelings, the odd paper tissue, floor sweepings, sometimes a tin ...what else is there ? Don't any of you recycle glass etc?
I can't think of anything nastier than hanging a carrier bag in the van or pushing it into a drawer with all the potential to drip or seep out.
If your Hartal bin falls off then, frankly, it shouldn't so check its been fixed properly in the first place or you put it back properly when you last removed it to clean.

I bought a square plastic bin from The Range for a couple of quid. cut two keyhole slots in the back and put hooks on the inside of the cupboard door under the sink. This has shelves but only half depth so the bin swings in on the door when its closed. Also use a bin liner in the bin. Take the plastic bin off to wash if necessary.

Re: What do you do about bins??
We buy a lot of bits for our van at Wilko so I think our small square pedal bin came from there. In the Duetto it sat on the floor by the back door, not ideal but limited space. Since we have had the Rienza we find it wedges between the toilet and the wall in the bathroom. It is out of the way and has no effect on using the bathroom. Most of the daily rubbish fits if squashed down a bit. It needs emptying about every three days but this is part of our move off site tasks. Another plus being spills and split bags, no more mess on the carpet we simply wash the bathroom floor.
I saw the effect of a door bin on a windy day. The door was blown back to its stops and any loose items in the top of the bin took off across the site.

Surely the problem here was nothing to do with the bin but with the owner for not emptying it before it was necessary to stack stuff on top ? The lid fits firmly on most door bins and stops rubbish blowing out. I've yet to meet a site with no rubbish disposal within a reasonable walk of pitches.
I wonder if he went after it to pick it all up ?
