Symbol 2011 tow bar
Hi there,
I'm looking into fitting a tow bar to my 2011 Symbol (Boxer van body). The bar looks easy to fit but !m struggling to see how to connect to the light wiring. The light cluster screws appear to be hidden by the furniture.
Does anyone have any experience of this job?
Cheers
Pete

Hi Pete
The right hand rear light fixing can be found after removing the lower fridge vent.
Be aware if you drop any tools it is difficult to retrieve them.
I have not tried the left hand one.
You must be aware the wiring is a cambus system so a call to Autosleeper might be a good plan.
Good luck I am sure others can help.
Regards Wallis

Being cambus, don't you need to use a bypass relay, rather than taking the power from the various rear light feeds?

Thanks Wallis and Ploughing.
Sounds like I need do a bit more research on the bypass relay and where I can make the connections.
I will post links to anything I find.

Tow bar and electrics now fitted
We now have a tow bar fitted to the Symbol. Not too bad and done over a week of evenings.
I bought a Witter bar and dedicated electric kit for a Ducato / Boxer. This came with pre fitted connectors and relay box. The worse part was finding a way to get to the rear lights. The trim pieces by the rear lights come off easily once you find the little peal off screw covers. The dog shower drip tray also needs to come off.
The rear light cables can be pulled off and the new loom connectors fitted without taking the lights off, but it does have to be done by feel.
All in all more of a fiddle getting the cables through the grommets and up to the light and the connectors clipped on rather than hard work.
Every thing worked first time thanks to good kit and clear instructions.
By the way it all came from PF Jones and saved around £225 over a local fully fitted quote.
I have some pics of the furniture panels that need removing if they would help anyone.
Cheers

Re: Symbol 2011 tow bar
Hi t25 pete, I have also used pf jones for the last 3 towbars that I have fitted and found their prices excellent and help with obtaining wiring diagrams etc very helpful indeed. (No , I dont have any connection with them!) Nowadays it is easy to buy a dedicated kit for wiring the electrics-if not a good bit more expensive-but, so much easier than the old days of using a multimeter then splicing into wiring looms etc. Especially nowadays with canbus systems and wiring looms that seem to be calculated to the strand of copper what current a wire is expected to carry and no more!
