Winter Camping in a Duetto Empty Winter Camping in a Duetto

Post by Cainnech Wed Oct 19, 2011 11:33 am

Hi,
We fancy trying out winter camping in our '96 Duetto and wondered if anybody had any experience of this and know of any pitfalls (freezing for example). How good is the insulation (please don't laugh). We did this in a Coachman VIP a few years back with no problems but not sure what to expect in a Duetto.

Thanks

Last October we went to Hereford C&CC site. Lovely suuny day when we arrived with temp around 10/12 degrees. Woke up on first morning, site covered in really heavy frost, temp -5 and with water frozen (see photo below for the frost). All taps on site also frozen except in toilet block. Neither fresh or waste tanks on our Symphony are insulated so can only advise to drain down every night and have a water container inside your MH just in case and if you feel the need to have running water only fill your tank with enough for each day and empty it every night, not forgetting to drain water heater.

Having recently replaced the roof aerial on my Duetto, a major job which involves the removal of two roof lining sections, I can tell you now the level of insulation is nothing short of a joke! It amounts to no more than finger thickness. And if the roof "insulation" is anything to go by, then it will be the same down the side panels. Shame really as AS have really skimped on what amounts to pence.

However a campervan is not a 'winterised' van and you would be better off heading out of the UK down to Spain or somewhere like that.
