Changing lock barrel
I cannot get the key into the door lock without forcing it in. I tried lubricating the barrel with silicone which made it better for a while.
Looks like I will need to replace the lock barrel. It is a Seitz door which I understand has a Zadi barrel. I can get a barrel matching my existing key and a barrel removing Zadi key.
Has anyone changed a barrel on this door and how easy is it?

Re: Changing lock barrel
Hi Moggy
Not done exactly that, but when I wanted a lock barrel changed my dealer had to go through a whole bunch of his lock changing keys before he found one that worked - in spite of at least two which should have worked but didn't.
Might be easier and cheaper to see what your dealer advises.

Re: Changing lock barrel
Hi Dave I was going to ask my local Motorhome dealer but thought it
Would be relatively easy to do it myself but perhaps not? I will pop in and ask them.

Re: Changing lock barrel
The barrel must be unlocked first. Then put in the red removal key, this should release the fins that keep the barrel in the handle, then pull out the barrel. That is the theory anyway.

Re: Changing lock barrel
Two weeks after we bought our last brand new van ( not AS) we were asked, on our way back to it, if our neighbours could look round. We put the key in the hab door lock and the whole barrel came away with the key in it. No resistance or effort at all. Not a good advert for Seitz doors. It sounds like they have made it more difficult to remove.

Before changing the barrel try some graphite locksmiths sell it but you could google it as soon as I had my new van I done all the locks and six months all work well.

Re: Changing lock barrel
I have had a small puffer bottle of Colloidal Graphite for about 40 years and use it regularly on all Yale type locks. It works a treat. Never use any form of oil or even WD40 as it stores up problems for the future.

Re: Changing lock barrel
Thanks very much-I already had a puffer bottle of graphite so I put loads into the barrel through the keyhole and hey presto it is now as good if not better than new.inspiredron wrote:I have had a small puffer bottle of Colloidal Graphite for about 40 years and use it regularly on all Yale type locks.
