Tyres for a Symphony
We need to put new tyres on the front of our new addition, I've spent ages looking and settled on
Continental Van Contact 200, mainly because they are rated B for fuel and A for wet grip and were highly rated by Auto Express.
Does anyone have any comments, or alternatives with reasons? We've never bought Tyres for anything but cars before so any advice is welcome.
Thanks

I have Kieber mud and snow ( m&s ) winter tyres, use all year round brilliant tyres and made for motor homes, extra strong side walls to take the extra weight.no slip in wet or on wet grass like some.

When we had a Boxer I ran it on Continental Vancos good good wear and handling with little noise and they were not expensive for a premium tyre

I find the Hankook brand gives me good performance on our Topaz
We have the 6 ply for a softer ride but I know that the 8 ply are fine tyres also.

Re: Tyres for a Symphony
Thanks for the info, another thing - in the Boxer manual it states for the 270 version 195 70 R15 reinforced
I note that the continental van Contact 200 ore 8 ply and not reinforced, but the continental vanco all season are reinforced.
How important is the reinforced bit? are they that much better than 8 ply?
Thanks again
Gav

I think the reinforced would apply to the side walls, which are important, very.

Re: Tyres for a Symphony
This has become a nightmare.
I think we have settled on
Continental Vanco Fourseason
195/70 R15 R (104)
Purely because they are reinforced and Continental appear to come out best in all the van tyre tests Ive read.
And, they are Marked M&S so if we are abroad in winter we should be ok..
Has anyone got these fitted?

Different size tyre and vehicle, but I have those on my Gloucester, original fit by MB. Not had any problems yet, reasonably quiet and wearing well.Canoman1 wrote:This has become a nightmare.

The 104 is the load rating, if that checks for your van then fit them. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Great thanks!
Im now looking at the Load Index - the van currently has 97T on the front and 104 on the rear. I am going to replace all 4, but dont have a clue which load index I use.In the auto Sleeper handbook for the van it lists Unladen mass of rear / front axle, unladen mass etc. I think (from what Ive read so far) i can divide some weight by 4 and add 25% to the result and that would give me the correct load index.
I dont know what weight to use tho.

Re: Tyres for a Symphony
Ah, i think I am making progress, the MAM of the vehicle is 2800kg, the unladen mass is 2430 (according to AS) the payload is therefore 370KG but theres bits n pieces that will reduce that like the TV etc, so - the MAM is the figure to use, so 2800 / 4 = 700 + 25% =875
So, a load rating of 102(850kg)/104(900kg) would be Ok
Please will someone tell me if thats right or am i talking nonsense.!?

Re: Tyres for a Symphony
There should be a load plate on the van, door jamb or under bonnet. This gives the max load for front and rear axles, rear likely more than front. Take the higher add 25% and divide by 2, then look up the load rating figure.

If i could get campers in the right size I would probably go for them but the agilis only seem to come in 215/225 and the michelins are the same!
The c denotes 'commercial' tyre for van/utilty use I believe as opposed to car use.
There should be a shop where you say tyres for a symphony please and the man says cheap or expensive and you say expensive and he says this is them.
job done.

Re: Tyres for a Symphony
The C denotes 'light commercial' which would be quite suitable. Camping tyres, made for motorhomes, are denoted by the letters CP after the size marking.Canoman1 wrote:bill.teager wrote:the tyers we put on the symphony had were camping tyres they had a c in the markings
