camping card europe??
Hi,
We plan to go over to Europe in a few weeks time. When we went previously we had a Camping card international to leave as ID instead of a passport etc. I previously got it from Caravan club. They now do a Keycard Europe instead but I notice camping club and others such as AA and RAC still do the CCI. Do others have that and do you know anything about the Keycard Europe. Any comments please.
Thanks Happy helen

I just show them my passport on registering, and I keep it. That seems to be invariably sufficient.

If you join ACSI.....always a good idea travelling on the continent out of the peak season....they provide an ID card for a few euros. It's true about showing a passport, but I would never leave one as has been requested sometimes.

Just a small point; you don't have to join ACSI to buy their card. It's €4.95 (or about £3.50) delivered without membership.

We have the CCI and has always been accepted instead of passport so worth having. Don't know about the key card though, sorry.

Re: camping card europe??
Hi there,
We use the ACSI ID Card and the ACSI sites that accept them for identification purposes.
Two reasons:
1. Some sites demand that you leave your Passport with their Reception. We avoid these sites.
2. In some countries (France for example) it is against the law to travel within the country without being in possession of your Passport. The UK doesn't have an Identity Card system like the rest of Europe; so we have to carry our Passports.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,

ACSI ID card does it for us too, although on ACSI Discount sites they often seem happy just to hang on to the discount card. Some will photocopy one or the other and return the card; others just note the details on their computer. Surprising how many sites (in France) are happy to trust you to pay when you leave, without keeping anything ....

Re: camping card europe??
The motorcaravanners club also do a 'camping card international' that can be left on the site instead of a passport. Between the ACSI ID card and the camping card international, I have never had to leave my actual passport on a site even though the reception might have checked it on arrival. I believe that the ACSI card also demonstrates some sort of insurance coverage.

Thanks for your views. Think I will try for the ACSI card on its own. Not going to be going out of peak so don't need more than just the card.
