Re possibly clocked mileage
Crikey this happened to us last week AND the week before, last week it was an autosleeper legend 1998 on eBay based in Bournemouth, the said mileage was 68,000 and our hpi check revealed 139,000 back in 2009.
AND the colour was changed, apparently in 2012. Both of these vehicles we were told belonged to another member of their family we put in a bid on the eBay one so we had comeback. Thank goodness. Yes I think try to appeal to their better nature at first if you decide not to buy, ask for your deposit back, it is misrepresentation.

Re: URGENT
I'd be getting my £500 deposit back via eBay, walking away & looking elsewhere if it were me....
Or, at worst I'd sooner lose the 500 quid, put it down to experience & learn a valuable lesson rather than get myself in even deeper.
Whatever the outcome I hope it works out for the buyer.

Still no news but I'll tell you what - that dealer can't half shift Duettos. 2 sold and another due in soon..

Huckybear has either spent the last week hooning around in the new acquisition or has gone back into hibernation having had their paws singed. Hope it's the former. It'd be nice to know the outcome either way.

Re: URGENT
Of course it could be that Huckybear is in dispute with the seller and doesn't want to post until it's resolved. But the vehicle is still showing as sold, as is the cheaper one. But as Paulmold said two more Duettos arriving soon. All a bit odd.

Re: URGENT
I really hope they managed to back out of it. I've never had much trust for any seller of motor vehicles that sells VWs but is not able to spell Volkswagen correctly - to me it's just a sign of sloppiness and poor attention to detail. It's also suspicious (to me) that they seem to be selling lots of motorhomes, but never seem to have received feedback on Ebay for selling anything...

In fairness to the dealer you cannot leave feedback for classified sales only auctions.

Re: URGENT
Hi all, sorry for the delay in replying but ive been a bit distraught. Against my better judgement I went ahead and bought the motorhome as the dealer convinced me the mileage was correct from the dvla records (which may I add only went back to 2006), so maybe it was clocked in 2005 I don't know. Because he had been so helpful and appeared to be genuine and the van looked so clean and well looked after I went ahead with the purchase. I had the most awful and scary drive back to York as the gear change was dreadful and the van was very laboured on the hills. I rang him up as soon as we got home 4 hours later and he said that he hadn't had any problem when driving it and applied that it must be my driving (I ASSUME HE MEANT BECAUSE I'M A WOMAN!!!!). I've had it in to a Ford main dealer and low and behold it needs a new clutch - cost £425. As soon as I got this news I rang him up and explained the situation and asked for a full refund. He refused on the grounds that it is down to wear and tear. Because of his refusal to issue a refund I have, unfortunately had to get in touch with trading standards - not a route anyone wants to be going down really! We have had a subsequent conversation during which he offered to fix the clutch himself (it did come with a 3 month parts and labour warranty) or swap it for one of two others he has subsequently taken into this stock. I don't want to go down this route because I've lost all confidence in him and his vans. £12,000 might not be a lot to a lot of people when purchasing a campervan/motorhome but I had to use all our savings and get a loan out to buy this van and am currently feeling very let down and gutted! It has rocked my confidence and put me off wanting to purchase another motorhome altogether and am thinking of going back to good old fashioned self catering. I had bought all sorts of accessories for the van in advance of buying it and feel embarrassed to think that I have been conned/taken for a ride!!!!!! ... P.S anyone want to buy a duetto.....low mileage, excellent condition?! etc ect

Re: URGENT
Hi Sally. I'm so sorry to hear your predicament. I expect you've been losing sleep over it these last few days and and I can fully understand. I would think that you must now take advice from Trading Standards and they will probably advise that you return the vehicle and push for a refund. It would seem that, as you suspect, it has been clocked after the 2005 mileage verification and this should be the basis for a refund.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Hey Sally,
Sorry to hear this, hope you get a full refund and trading standards actually do their job and help you with lots of support. It is a lot of money and you don't deserve to be taken in. Good luck.. Andy

Thanks guys there are a few other things wrong with it too, but I know a lot of people might think well what do you expect for a vehicle of this age, I don't want to say too much more as I believe he is probably a member on this forum and with me proceeding with the TS and all that I better keep a bit schtum, I really appreciate all your support

Re: URGENT
one saving grace you have is that u bought from a dealer and not privately. If you purchase privetely you have very little legal protection, but having purchased from a dealer you are covered by legislation including the sale of goods act. I am sure that trading standards have been through all this with you. It is important that all the issues you have with the vehicle are raised immediately in order that the dealer can not say that they developed after he sold the vehicle. Trading standards are a good source of advice and your rights under the sale of goods act can be easily researched on the net, including what you need to show in order to be entitled to a refund. A lot of us empathise with your situation and wish you all the best.

Wishing you all the best, please don`t let it put you off motor homes, when it is sorted and you have recovered you may find the will to carry on with which is a very enjoyable hobby and lifestyle, dust yourself down and start again. You do have rights thank g.....
So chin up and all my best wishes to you.
Best regards,
Margaret

Good luck Sally, yes it is an awful lot of money and you will be covered by sale of goods act etc so try not to get too stressed. More easily said than done I am sure.
Thoughts are with you and as Margaret says don't give up on MH's, there are a lot more good kind honest people out there than dishonest.
All the best John.

Re: URGENT
I can only concur what others have said, most of us started our motor-homing days in older high mileage vans, we started in a 6 volt split screen VW, it took us 30 years to afford a newer van, these have had there problems too!
Keep your chin up and I'm sure you will get through this disappointment .
