Symbol will not start
I have a Symbol 2001 Diesel, on occassions after a good day out we return to the Van (Bobby) switch off the alarm but the Glow Plug light and igniton will not work.
At first I thought it was the old alarm so had a new one fitted. for a while everything seemed fine, problem solved I thought.
However after doing some shopping the other day I tried to start and "oh dear, same problem".
Called out the alarm boys who insist there is nothing wrong with the alarm or imobiliser has to be something with the Boxer engine or electrics.
Being close to Christmas none of the local garages seem to want to waste time until after the holidays looking for the fault.
Has ayone else had a problem like this out there????

Re: Symbol will not start
Is there by any chance a mobile phone or radio mast nearby?
I've experienced a similar issue and the masts were the cause!!

Re: Symbol will not start
The description of the problem is a little vague, but the first thing I would think of is a faulty ignition switch.
I know that some manufacturers take real liberties with original spares prices, but a replacement should not be too expensive.

Hi
This is the sort of problem that really needs a wiring diagram and a few measurements to sort it out but in the absence of these I’d add the fuse box to the list of suspects.
I’ve certainly had intermittent faults caused by corrosion on the fuse blades and the contacts in the holder. If that is the problem pulling the fuses out and putting them back in a few times usually cures it temporarily.

Seems like a good plan, I shall certainly try this if none of the other ideas work Micky.mikethebike wrote:Hi Thinking about this a bit more.I would call your breakdown firm if it happens again.

Hi
Another possibility.
Just remembered a similar problem a friend of mine had a few years ago with very similar symptoms. It was on a Peugeot car and it turned out to be the key sensor attached to the ignition switch had become dislodged. It was right on the edge of the range and would sometimes detect the chip in the key and sometimes not.

I suddenly had trouble with my car alarm, turned out that a new neighbour had changed the channel his broadband was using, changed it to another channel and all was well.
