Another change medical records
Did you know next year 2015 all your medical notes will be on computer and accessible for you to look at, also there is going to be an app to down load on to your phone to see same and to make medical appointments, guess who may also be looking at your records,? another route for the con merchants, identity theft for one. also available to others.

Is this the same computerisation that was scrapped in 2013 after 10 years. It was a miserable failure so how is it going to be possible to have it up and running by next year?

Re: Another change medical records
This is an overdue and welcome development. I just hope it will be available in Wales. It will allow be to check and amend my medical record (Only by accident did I find one significant error in the past, which had been adversely affecting my insurance). It'll enable me to see when I last had a tetanus jab so I can keep up to date, or see if I ever had mumps as a child etc. But better than that, it will give an A&E Dept instant access to the accumulated records from various hospitals (NHS and private) and GP practices which have treated me, to see such things as current drugs regimes; allergies; intolerance of NSAIDs etc etc.
The assembly of big data from all sources will enable, for the first time, the quick spotting of trends such as happened after the introduction of thalidomide. It has the support of the Royal College.
Yes, I can hear the concerns about security etc etc. But I am content to use my bank's app daily, and I believe that the benefits of the NHS scheme outweigh the risks. It has my support.

Oh I agree entirely with the advantages you've stated, I'm just wondering how they can do it in a year when it took ten years previously to fail. (I assume that you couldn't alter your own records yourself, which is how it sounds in your post above).

Re: Another change medical records
Hi I find it hard to believe records go that far back. I can get my recent records from my doctors.
In fact the receptionist appears to have sight of my records.
However has I have moved doctors/house many times that may be the reason.
I try to keep my own records, which at times are different.Only over the last 8 years or so.
Regards
Micky

Some more thoughts on this. First I am not worried about security.
My records are on a computer now.The change maybe to put my details on every bodies computer. Ie Big brother.
I do not think this will go as far back as paper records.??

I recall being non-plussed in about 1999, when my dentist handed me a very dog-eared manilla wallet which held such of my dental records as had been passed to him: in glorious copperplate handwriting, the Clerk who'd started the file had written in my name and my (then) address, and had completed my date of birth in a box which said "Date of birth:___ ___ 19__"; to my dismay, I saw the pre-printed box beneath that. It said ""Date of death:___ ___ 19__"!
As Oscar said, Reports of my death are exaggerated!

I have no direct concerns about this because this means wherever I am in the country I will get the appropriate treatment. I would be more concerned about insurance companies refusing cover after trawling the records. Many people cannot remember everything they may have suffered from but your records will tell it all.
