Change to LEDs
Hi.
Has anyone replaced their internal lights for LEDs ? if so how did you get on. Also is there knack for removing the shade - I've tried the gentle approach and thought it best to ask the question before getting too heavy handed:-)
Thanks for any advice

Re: Change to LEDs
Hi and welcome.
In our 2002 Pollensa, I changed all of our sidelights, which were previously incandescent bulbs like car sidelights, and also all of the fluorescent strips, except for the shower/loo which is only on for short periods. I also added two-way switches on both of the lounge area fluorescent fittings, so as to be able to have one or both strips on depending on the required light level.
There was a bit of jiggery-pokery involved, I won't go into all the details yet without knowing if your Symbol has the same fittings - some pictures might help.
cheers
Roger

Re: Change to LEDs
Welcome, it's a dead easy job as described in the two lengthy threads already alluded too. I suggest that you don't trawl all the way thro' the "LED Experiment" thread as much has changed in the LED world since it started. Pick it up from, say, 18 months ago and the units suggested are probably all still available cheaply on e-bay.
My one piece of advice is not to choose cool LEDs as they really are too blue; warm ones are much more agreeable.
Cheers,
Pete.

Re: Change to LEDs
I've always had good quality product from this seller, we first bought G4 Halogen replacement 10-30V LEDs for our boat from him about 4 years ago, all LEDs still going as good as new, and last year bought all our 3528 strip from him to replace the fluorescent tubes in our Exec as described in the 2nd thread.
These look like the ones we bought, all still working and a very nice warm colour:

EDIT: We bought some 5M 5050 LED waterproof strips from another seller for our kitchen under cupboard lighting, and I've had to replace them with new sections from the roll several times as they haven't lasted well at all.
I may buy some from the guy in the link above to replace the whole lot, as I haven't had a single failure from him yet.

Re: Change to LEDs
Thanks for all the advice on my 1st thread here. I was hoping to replace the existing bulbs with LEDs, so I need access to the light which will tell me which (if available) bulb is required, therefore if anyone has advice on how to get the shade off I'd be very grateful. I've tried the softly, softly approach which doesn't seem to work. I've only had the van for 2 months so reluctant to get the hammer out just yet :-). She's a 2007 Boxer Symbol, if that doesn't help, I'll figure out how to attach a photo soon.
Cheers

Re: Change to LEDs
What do you mean by "shades"? Are you referring to Labcraft fluorescent strips (containing 2 short tubes)? If so, I've kept a note from this wonderful forum about how to remove them, and I can send it to you.

Labcraft bulbs
Hi Cymro. Yes I think they are Labcraft fluorescent strips. I'd not removed the shade before and didn't want to over engineer it's removal, ie, with a very small lump hammer:-). Anyway once I'd teased one clip out I could see how the remainder where clipped in. Using a hair dryer, it's possible to soften the brittle shade and remove it. However, being a follicly challenged male, I would welcome your notes.Cymro wrote:What do you mean by "shades"? Are you referring to Labcraft fluorescent strips (containing 2 short tubes)?
