Engine start up noise.
We have a 2012 Euro 5 Peugeot 2 litre diesel in our Sussex Duo. Not sure if this is normal, but starting from cold the engine " rattles " somewhat for about 5 to 10 seconds or so. Gradually the " rattle " goes away , assuming that the oil lub system kicks in. Is this normal for this type of engine, and does anyone else experience this. Thanks in anticipation.

Re: Engine start up noise.
It's entirely normal on any engine with hydraulic tappets. While the engine is standing, oil drains out of the tappets and it takes a while for them to get fully back up to pressure.
Provided you are running exactly the right spec/grade of oil for the engine and it disappears after no more than a minute or two it's nothing to worry about.

Hi
I haven't got any personal experience, but this thread may be of interest.

The eventual conclusion was that it is probably normal - I think!

Over the years ive had 3 "sevel" vans a 1-9TD a 2.0 HDI and now a Euro 5 2.2 A/S Nuevo 2012 and this latest one I would describe as "clatters" on start up ! Ive now done 10,000 miles and it seems to be "just one of those things that happen!" It drives along superbly, really pleased with it!

Thanks for your replies. It was as I thought, backed up by your experiences, will just carry on as usual. Agree with Paul above, it does go well, and not bad on fuel ! Thanks too all.
