removal of duetto interior
hi all, this is a follow up to the m.o.t nightmare post.my wife took the duet to to a local firm who are quite happy to do the welding but for it to be done the interior has to come out to prevent a fire i.e. carpet, flooring and cupboards.im not sure about the shower tray but i am assuming it will.has anyone done this before as i am thinking of doing it myself.any advice will be greatly appreciated.i was also wondering if auto sleeper might do this sort of thing.

I think you will be ok getting most of it out as these vans are put together will with Philips screws. As for the shower tray do a search on here for I think it was tommydarcy if I have the name right he stripped his shower out and did away with it from memory I think he had trouble with the tray and smashed it.

I think it was Paulwest55 who removed the washroom. He was on here yesterday I think so hopefully he will see this.

Re: removal of duetto interior
Hi Mickenbacker, yes it was us who removed the shower tray in our Duetto. We actually removed the whole washroom, as this gave us more space in the rear of the van. The shower tray must have been one of the last thing put in as the carpet continues under it, which was great for us as we had no intention of replacing it. It was a pain to remove. You can check out photos on our website.

Re: removal of duetto interior
My recommendation (from personal experience) is to identify ~exactly~ where they will be welding and take out the minimum you have to, and shield the rest.
Removing the interior will be a horrible job because - for example - A-S tend to stick carpet and other finishings over the top of fixing screws. Another example I found was that I had to grind out the screws holding the runners in place for one of the drawers - from the ~inside~ of the drawer - through the wood!
The problem is that the furniture is installed in an order that is convenient to the A-S installers, and not for the convenience of someone wanting to take it out at a later date.

Wow, that's quite a job - I think the vehicle in that thread might have appeared for sale here under the user name "RustyPrincess" or similar - it must have spent a lot of its life at the seaside!

Re: removal of duetto interior
i have found someone to do the welding and don't have to remove the interior:up!: just to be on the safe side i got a caravan engineer in to price up removing the interior and he was quite willing to do it although we only discussed the removal of the fridge sink and cooker side of the van,but as i don't have to now I'm very relieved:allthumbz:

Re: removal of duetto interior
Looking back on this old posting re-welding on the Duetto. Does Harper22 (or anyone else) know what type of welding was used so the interior didn't need removing?
Thanks---in hope!

Re: removal of duetto interior
MIG should be the only process used to weld anything really on these vans. There is very little heat displacement either side the joint if done correctly.
I hope nobody is considering gas welding on high strength steel bodies as it will cause distortion.
TIG welding would be acceptable but I doubt if your average body shop would have the skills or equipment
