Dealers like to do the hab check but I think that A/S probably do it better!

Good tip Ron, especially as AS is within 40 miles of our home. Do they have a fixed price for different models?

I think so and it is 10% off if you are a member of ASOC (not ASOF!)Bertie Bassett wrote:inspiredron wrote:Dealers like to do the hab check but I think that A/S probably do it better!

Re: Seventh and Final.
Bit of a bump here but another question for those who have recent build Broadways. I can't find any to view which have the overcab lockers has anyone got the dimensions and is it still an option? Mrs BB and self aren't keen on the skylight for all sorts of reasons, suspected (and reported) wind noise, water ingress, too much light when driving and too much chatter from the blinds if closed when travelling. We also rather like putting light items like pillows in overcab lockers. So any thoughts please, and many thanks to all who have responded to my earlier questions.

Don't know anything about the overcab locker options but, on our new Broadway the blinds are totally rattle free, there is no water ingress and no wind noise. We had an overcab skylight in the Bessacarr and liked the sense of space and light it gave but that did not open. Being able to open it I'd great on hot days as it really pulls air through. The shelf underneath it and two lockers on either side are handy too. If it is sunny when we travel I pull the bind up but no rattle. My only complaint is that the blind is very stiff to use as you are in an awkward position to apply force to it _ upwards.
We have square pillows for sleeping on and, in the day they are put into cushion covers and used as scatter cushions.

Many thanks again Q, Mrs BB has hoisted the one about pillows and the potential for dual use.

Same as Quilter, no rattles or wind noise the only problem I have is cleaning the roof light.

Hi BB Clearly you have a lot of experience on motorhome selection and I'm certainly not trying to hijack the positive responses in this post, but personally I would question any vehicle with a payload well under 400kg (assuming premium pack). We looked at the broadway and they are great vans, but dismissed them on the basis of the available payload. Now I realise that AS are not alone is this respect, but a 6.3m van where you have to seriously think about how to keep things within legal limits, just seems a step backwards to me. All the space, but you have to carefully think about what you can carry. As for removing bits post delivery to save valuable payload, Again I understand, but I'm 'lost for words'. I'm not sure what the answer is and realise as base vehicles get heavier and heavier the problem is only going to get worse, to have a chance of keeping within the important 3500kg MTPLM limit.

I've got over this by having a tow bar fitted and buying a trailer, DFDS only charging extra tenner to take it over to France. I know this wouldn't suit everybody but it's fine for me, carrying lafuma relaxers, Barbeque and kitchen, Awning, Fresh and waste water barrels, levellers, etc, besides food and clothing for our trips to Benidorm.hoopman wrote:Hi BB Clearly you have a lot of experience on motorhome selection and I'm certainly not trying to hijack the positive responses in this post, but personally I would question any vehicle with a payload well under 400kg (assuming premium pack). Re: Seventh and Final.
I agree with what you say hoopman, we've had a four and a half ton Laika in the past with a pretty heavy scooter on the back and still weighed in with about 200Kgs to spare. It does focus our minds but having read all that the gents on this forum have said and being fairly small c conservative when it comes to travel (no TV and so on) we aren't going to let the payload put us off. We walked round 3A's Leisure in Carmarthen on Saturday, looking at a variety of UK and Euro vans but our last stop was the only Broadway EK TB LP they had. Quite honestly there was no contest for us. Layout perfect, a positive feeling of space and the build quality was brilliant. We're decided and we'll live with the small payload, particularly as I've only four and a half years to go before 'big brother' tells me I can't drive anything over 3500 without doing a bureaucratic assault course every couple of years to keep my existing licence!hoopman wrote:Hi BB Clearly you have a lot of experience on motorhome selection and I'm certainly not trying to hijack the positive responses in this post, but personally I would question any vehicle with a payload well under 400kg (assuming premium pack). Food for thought there John. How do you deal with security when overnighting on the journey down and up?

Lockable ABS lid, cheap hitch lock, wheel clamp and plastic coated cable with lock to fasten it to van chassis.

Re: Seventh and Final.
Hi for me you have made the right choice. We went to the Nuevo from our Sussex Duo for longer trips away and the space. Having done a long trip to Italy and Germany we now realise we should have gone for the Broadway. So our new 2015 Broadway EK is now on order for late oct/nov delivery. I rang most dealers for the best deal including dealers north of the border. Worst deal and poor service was Marquis as they were when we changed last time so we will never deal with them, felt they were selling double glazing rather than a £55k plus motorhome. Two dealers were within £5 to secure a deal with us but the inclusion of a Thatcham alarm fitted and suplied as part of the deal clinched it for us.Bertie Bassett wrote:Within the next eight months Mrs BB and self are to buy our seventh and final motorhome. We have decided on a Broadway EK TB LP and we have narrowed the dealerships we are happy to do business with down to two. Have any forum members who own this particular model got any advice for us. We've had a Romahome, a Duetto(brilliant), a Laika...aaaaaargh.... .......say no more, a Herald (good van, much underrated) and so on and our current van is an Autocruise Rhythm which we like but is too small for the journeys we have planned for our forthcoming retirement (22 months and 27days away). Any advice, recommendations, caveats would be welcomed before we part with our hard earned. Many thanks in advance.
Incidently we have all our warranty work done on the Island another question to any prospective dealer for us. Its carried out at the old Romahome site in Cowes.

Thanks for taking the trouble to comment andy. We would value your first impressions when you've spent a bit of time with the van. And good luck when you do collect, we hope it's perfect!

At the NEC in Feb 2015, unless the two dealers we've shortlisted come up with a good deal on the facelifted model before then. Trouble is they'll have a number of pre-facelifts to get rid of come October so we're not holding our breath.

Re: Seventh and Final.
We've had similar experience with Marquis they never give anything away and always IMO undervalue your van and always want to make the maximum profit on every deal.
You always get the same story about how little profit they make on each sale so trying to do a deal with them in my experience is almost impossible. There is certainly no such thing as customer loyalty as far as they are concerned.

Well, we have been dealing with Marquis for several years now, as well as having servicing and so on from them. Our last van was bought new, 7 years ago.
We reckon we got a very good- much better than we expected anyway- P/X deal for our current van from Marquis. That included supplying and fitting a bike rack, swopping over our large solar panel and doing the necessary upgrade and changes to the AS regulator and display unit, supplying and fitting a TV bracket, uprating the Thatcham alarm and - the clincher really- a large golf umbrella !
We have no complaints.

I have had comment from others too regarding Marquis, how can they offer £5k less on one of their own dealer specials (Sussex Duo) in PX for a Nuevo than other dealers? I couldn't believe it when they rang back with an offer so far wide of the mark. Still their loss.

Quite a bit can change in 7 years- and there are several Marquis dealerships with many personnel, all of whom are individuals.Quilter wrote:Well, we have been dealing with Marquis for several years now, as well as having servicing and so on from them. Our last van was bought new, 7 years ago.

That Peter is the advantage of a small family set up. Same staff and family over a long period creating good customer relations and from their point of view repeat business. The company I refer to are Spinney in Cheshire. Does anyone agree?
