Dash clock not working Empty Dash clock not working

Post by RichardB Fri Jun 06, 2014 5:32 pm

Hi all.
clock on my dashboard (1999 Mark 1 Peugeot Boxer) has never worked.    Im not bothered but the wife would like a clock, so I bought a replacement and swapped it and it still doesn't work.   The clock is not faulty as it was tested when I bought it.

I am not quite sure where to look - I think it could be a wiring problem as the van has been "adjusted" to make the radio and cig lighter always on.  I've checked the fuses and there all ok.

Does anyone know what each of the wires that go into the clock should be - is there a wiring diagram anywhere?

Any help appreciated

All I can find is that there are two fuses for the clock. Fuse 11 is for the clock, cig lighter, interior lights & radio. Fuse 3 is for the clock and wash/wipe. Can't find a wiring diagram showing the clock.

EDIT
John's answer is more likely to be accurate.  up!

Thanks - will venture out into the rain to have a look at that this morning...

Whilst there I will also be replacing the bulb that lights the orange fuel low light...
No prizes for guessing how I found out that wasn't working - luckily I had some spare fuel with me!

Thanks all - clock is now working

Tested the pins with multimeter and Pin 3 had nothing on it.   Couldn't trace the wire back under the dashboard without removing it all, so cut it and ran a new wire from the fuse board - all now working and we know what the time is!

Hi

Is that right, your first post said Pin 2 to fuse 11.   In my vab fuse 11 also has the radio and cig lighter socket off it.   I think that should also be ignition controlled as it has the cig lighter and radio off it - but has been altered to their always live.

Maybe the clock was disconnected to stop it drawing too much power because of the change to fuse 11 making it not  ignition controlled.

Do you know what each of the pins 1, 2 and 3 do?   One of them must be connected to a permanently live 12v to keep the clock running - I presume that is pin 1.

At the moment it seems to function ok, in that it keeps the time and the clock display only shows the time when the ignition is turned on...

I tested the battery voltage tonight so will test again in the morning see how much it's used overnight

I'm guessing here but one wire is obviously earth. one live all the time to keep the clock working, one ign fed to light the display when the ign is switched on and one to dim the display when the lights are switched on.
Don't know which is which though  scratch head

Frank

PS my cig lighter and radio are live all the time
