Dash Cam
Hi All,
Has anyone had the pleasure of hard wiring a dash cam on an Autosleeper Boxer?
Found the fuse box on the dash on the drivers side, but which fuse should I use?
I notice the fuses are mini types, and I intend to use a piggy back connector.
Thanks!

Re: Dash Cam
Hi Mr R,
In the past I have wired them by using a fused lead to the interior light fitting in the cab area, the one over the rear view mirror.
Once prised out from the headlining plenty of space for wires to be fitted.
No probs with routing the cable around the windscreen etc and very easy to remove.
I also use this method to fit wireless reversing cameras exiting the wire out of the sun visor fitting hole, thats for ones fitted onto the sunvisor or that higher up area.
Works for me just remember to check the wires are ok to use and put an extra fuse in
for that 'just in case' moment.
Cheers

Re: Dash Cam
I wired our dash cam into the fuse box using a piggy back fuse. Cannot remember which fuse I used, but anyway your van may be different to mine. I made sure I picked a fuse that was only live with the ignition on.
No problem for over 5 years.

Remembering that most dash cams are 5v,and need interface from 12v to 5v or cig plug ! Kits available £10 ish…..just a thought

That may be correct, but Nextbase cameras come with the power lead and piggyback fuse as standard, or they did when I bought mine.tallslimdave wrote:Remembering that most dash cams are 5v,and need interface from 12v to 5v or cig plug ! Kits available £10 ish…..just a thought

Re: Dash Cam
This was my solution when I had a Warwick Duo.... The power adaptor found online is designed to fit in a cup holder, this one did just fine where the ashtray should be. 2 x 12v and 2 x usb charge all powered from the original cigar lighter. Cable route as shown, cables held in place with microscopic dots of hot glue.
If travelling abroad, be advised dash cam use is illegal in Luxembourg and Portugal, frowned upon in several other countries.........
Forgot! I added a 2nd 12v socket as the cigar lighter was just that, not a 12v power socket. You can get a special plug from 12v planet which is happy in a cigar lighter..............

Re: Dash Cam
Thanks Guy's for your kind replies!
I have ordered a hard wire kit from Amazon which should arrive today.
I have checked in the van and removed the drivers side pillar and fuse cover.
Checked which fuse to piggy back on to and it's 31.
5amp and controls the Relay Supply when ignition is on.
All I want now is the kit!!

Re: Dash Cam
Interested to know if you got your dashcam hardwire kit working. I installed my Nextbase onto fuse 31 in my Symbol Plus today, and there's no power running to it. I also tried fuse 47.Raydrake wrote:Thanks Guy's for your kind replies!

Yes Steve, all working fine. I connected to fuse 51 on the top row, piggy back goes in nicely.

I tried 31 (top row, left most fuse). Which one is 51?
Also, what did you do with the black wire? I can't work out where to attach it.

Re: Dash Cam
Hi Steve.
Should work OK on 31, but 51 is two to the right of 31, same row.
If you remove the black cover over the wheel arch on the drivers side (2 screws)
You will find loads of wires and 2 earth lugs. I used the top one.
Let me know how you get on.

The black wire will be the earth, you need to attach it to a good clean point or another earth lead. Whatever fuse you connect the live (red) to, nothing will work unless the earth is connected.

Guys thanks for your help. I had to take off multiple panels to find an earth screw, finally found one above the driver's step. Now I just need to find a place to stick the camera that avoids the windscreen shades lol

Can't help you on that one mate. I have got a curtain!
My Cam "Next Cam" has got a detachable suction magnetic bracket that allows the cam to be slid off very easily.

Unfortunately the mount on my Nextbase 322GW is pretty big. The camera itself is quite small. I'll persevere...Raydrake wrote:Can't help you on that one mate. I have got a curtain!
