priming my water pump. Empty priming my water pump.

For the past 2 years I hav'nt been able to prime the water pump without the assistance of a friend who removed the pump, immersed it in water, then replaced it into the van to get the water flowing.

Anymore new Ideas?
Is one of the problems caused after removing the hotwater tank pressure at the end of the season?    :think_smiley_4

The pump should be self priming.
I had a similar problem last year and it turned out to be the clear plastic filter housing on the pump inlet was cracked.
Fitted a replacement and it was OK after.

Yes, self-priming. Here is a FAQ's list from Shurflo...

After the winter drain down , I recently had the same problem , it did not prime.
I took off the pump, and ran hot water over the valves/diaphragm , reassembled it , it then self primed with a lift of 5 ft. (under test). I assume that the assembly was a bit sticky , having been dry for a few months.
In the future if required , rather than bother to remove the pump , I will connect a piece of hose to the pump inlet (filter), with the pump in place, and gravity feed hot soapy water into the pump (whilst running) ,followed by a  test to check it will self prime from a bucket of clean cold water.

On a 1998 Duetto, the water pump is situated behind the cupboard under the oven.
The false back of the cupboard is secured by  a couple of wood screws.
The false back folds in order to remove it from the cupboard.
Run the pump and you can hear where it is to confirm that it is the same on a 1995 model.
