Removing the oven and grill Empty Removing the oven and grill

Post by Joan Fri Apr 11, 2014 10:44 pm

I am not sure if we need these facilities as a hob is more than ample. Do people remove the grill and oven sections and convert to a cupboard or is this complicated? I was wondering how the gas pipes and taps would be dismantled. Any advise or would it be best to visit Autosleepers? Thanks

Gas appliances can be removed and the supply capped off. Its not difficult for a qualified motorhome engineer to do this. You can then do what ever you want with the space it leaves.

I would need to be really sure that I or some future owner of the van wouldn't want a grill or oven before I removed them. You can use them for storage as they are while you think about it. Personally we use both regularly all year round.

I carefully removed mine as we never used it either, completely bubble-wrapped & stored away ready for re-installation at a later date.
I bought a suitably sized microwave, fabricated alloy angle which was pop-riveted to the case & the assembly was fitted into the oven space, then a one-piece surround was fitted to 'fill the gaps'.
The gas hob & under grill are retained, & there is a good sized storage under the oven via a drop down hinged door.
I realize that the 'black' doesn't match the rest, but it is almost impossible to match the wood & 'different' wood might look even worse.  scratch head
Having said that,  the oven was dark brown anyway!!
All easily returned to original in about an hour when required.
