Tow Bar for Trophy
I tried using the search function but cannot find any posts. Has Anyone fitted a tow bar to a Trophy or similar VW T4 Auto-sleeper?

Re: Tow Bar for Trophy
We have a tow bar on our Topaz. It was fitted by the dealer we bought it from so we could use our bike rack. It fits ok and looks tidy underneath.

Ah cool, could I be so cheeky and ask for a picture of it from underneath and from the back of the van? I ask as I cannot find any pre fab kits so I assume I will have to make it myself. Looking for some fabricating inspiration

I'll try and take some later, but a quick google for 'towbar vw t4' turned up lots of results for kits from £75 upwards.
Here's a couple of the links but there were lots more in the google results.

Really, even with the extended fibre glass rear section?

Re: Tow Bar for Trophy
Maybe the Trophy is different to the Topaz. Ours is a standard van body with a hi-top.
edit: A quick search and yes, ours is based on the LWB t4 while the Trophy is based on the SWB with an extended rear. Have they not extended the chassis rails (such as they are) back to support the rear bumper?

Re: Tow Bar for Trophy
Hi as far as I am aware you will not find an off the shelf tow bar for a trophy. You van is based on a swb T4 with a grafted on pod. Clever design from A/S prior to the introduction of the vw lwb. There are a number of tow bar manufacturers in England who will make you up a custom fit, but unless you are intending to travel over to England for some other reason, it would be an expensive solution just for a towbar. Good luck with your search in Jersey.

hI
I have a VW Trophy and looked into having a towbar put on I believe that there is no such thing as a ready made one to fit as they have to have extended fixing brackets under the van to allow for the rear fibreglass extension, I have had no luck in tracing one at all

I had a similar problem, so I measured up the chassis extensions & fabricated my own, held by 6 x high-tensile bolts & turned out rock-solid!!
So it CAN be done, but you'll have to find someone who's prepared to 'mess about a bit'.

Re: Tow Bar for Trophy
Hi All,
I bought one of these about 6 months ago:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Very easy to fit to our SWB Trident. Looks very neat being a swan neck. Very solid - I have towed a double axle flatbed trailer with more than a ton of bricks on the back (NOT really recommended!).
Hope that helps,
Steve
Edit: Just realised this is no good at all due to the extended rear of the trophy. Unless the chassis rails have been extended and 'duplicated'.

Sorry to be a killjoy, but I believe any tow bar fitted to a vehicle manufactured after Aug 1st 1998 must have type approval.See above link, which also states that insurance could be void.
.......and yes, I'm guilty as charged and have built my own in the past.Just thought this should be mentioned.
