SYMBOL electric hookup
SYMBOL - This is my first motorhome and have only just used ELECTRIC HOOK-UP for the 1st time. I found that Fridge, TV & 3 pin sockets worked directly from the hook up electricity, but........ had to flick the 'MASTER' switch on (using Leisure battery) to use the 'LIGHTS', PUMP & toilet flush. Is this correct? Or am I doing something wrong. Am I missing a switch somewhere for the lights? I thought this great forum would give me the answer. Thankyou SYMBOL owners.

hiya,
yes, that's correct, you need the master switch on for the lights, pump and flush to work from the 12v leisure battery - there should be a 'battery' switch to charge this via mains hook up under oven, in the drop down cupboard - also there should be a mains 'hot water' switch here too.
hope this helps

Re: SYMBOL electric hookup
Hi, fellow symbol owner., there is a light in the centre of the ceiling which is the only 240 volt light in the van, it should have it printed on 240v, this is the one I ask Eva to try after I have plugged in the EHU, all the others are 12 volt, regards john,

hi
my van (2001) only has 12volt lighting, I have a mains tester I plug into the socket over the fridge and I watch that one when switching hook up on.

Re: SYMBOL electric hookup
Hi all, not all Symbols have the centre 240 volt light, it seems to be an extra on some 2000 vans.
Be careful with the switch in the cupboard under the oven and make sure to heater switch is off when water is nor present in the system. The other switch is for the habitation battery charger when on mains.
Best regards, Mike

Re: SYMBOL electric hookup
Fab !! THANKYOU SO MUCH FOR PUTTING MY MIND AT EASE knowing that I need to use the 'Master' switch (12v) for the LIGHTING etc. I don't have the centre light in my van. Shame cause I think it's a great advantage - but I'm sure the little that I use the lights doesn't take alot of battery. I'm so glad that I now know. As I've said before, I think this Forum is Fab ! It helps me to chat and get information from all you great people out there. THANKYOU

Re: SYMBOL electric hookup
When you are on electric hook-up the battery is being charged anyway so the 12v lighting is not draining the battery. Also I confirm the power is on by looking at the fridge '230v' light after I connect.

Re: SYMBOL electric hookup
My Symbol is a 2003 model but it dosn't have a central 240v light.
I don't think it's any detrement having 12v lighting, many an evening
we watch TV (12v) all night and don't see any dimming of the lights.
