Has anyone fitted one of the above to a Topaz in place of the main roof vent?

We are hoping to be able to take our dog away with us when we go mountain biking and may have to leave him in the van for 2-3 hours. Our worry is that we will not be able to reliably keep it cool in the van if the weather is hot. If it's too hot then we won't be biking anyway, but even on sunny days it can get quite warm in a car.

We are getting an external silver screen (genuine one) for the windscreen and side windows. Do they stay cool inside with just the silver screen?
The fan has a thermostatic controller and we thought that this might extract enough air from the interior (replacing it with cooler air from low down outside).

How easy is it to connect into the leisure battery electrics at roof level? Would it need to be connected to the back of the Zig control panel? scratch head

Any ideas/suggestions gratefully received. Thanks.

Hi As know one has answered,i will give it a try.
Personally i would leave the dog outside with water. Able to get shelter under the van.
Alternately inside but with windows open as a second choice.
Dont worry about security. up!

The Silver Screens will certainly minimise the temperature rise due to sunlight on the windscreen and door glass.  You should also close all other blinds by 90%.

There are very many air vents at floor level so if you leave a roof vent open then the environment should be both safe and comfortable for your dog.  There are two risks with this, one leaving the vent open may invalidate your theft insurance - it does mine - and if it rains water will get in - it bounces back up from the roof and then back down from the inside of the vent.

So the Fiamma Turbo Vent looks a good solution for you.  I have no experience of them but the 3 hr max you plan to be away shouldn't cause battery problems.  I'm not familiar with the van so can't advise electrical connection but wouldn't expect it to be a problem at the Service Centre or an AS dealer.

Hi
Our last van was a Topaz.
We had no problem leaving dog inside, pull blinds, draw curtains,if you have silver screen or even internal screens for front window even better.
We opened heater vents and ran fan on slow speed, van kept very cool even on Whitby North Cliff in mid August with no shade
