Palermo purchase ??
Hi, After what seems like ages of looking / dithering etc, and nearly buying a Medallion, we (well my wife anyway ) has decided we should have a fixed bed layout, We are now looking at Palermo,s 2005 ish all seem Peugeot based, Does anyone have any experience of this model and or the engines ? are there anyy long term problems with these engines ? Is there any other model we should be considering which is similar in layout ? Didn,t really want a Peugeot -would prefer vw or Merc but everything suitable seems to be always Pug or Fiat. Also slightly horrified to hear on hereof a members problems with Neuvo warrantee.??
Many thanks in advance...

I like the monoquoc bodies, no leaks, they are very sort after, had a permaent double bed in a carvavan, years ago, seems great in theory in practice a different thing altogether, a lot of room taken up.also not easy to make, b roken nails and scraped knuckles.
You have to think how you will be using your van, and where you are going, if you like narrow country lanes and way out places you need something suitable, I have just bought a VW Autosleeper Clubman anniversary, it is my everyday vehicle, it is roomy, comfortable, a few seconds for the beds and it is a tardis.and suits me for what I want to do.
Good luck i your search.

Their were not many Palermo made. There are Orion and Marquis equivalents but I don't know the model names. They are of coachbuilt construction on Peugeot chassis.
Their are no Peugeot type specific problems for that era of chassis. The only comment I ever heard about specific Palermos was to improve the support given by the bed base but I can't remember the detail and if there was a problem with the one you source it will very likely have been dealt with.
If you want a Mercedes AS with a fixed bed look for an early Marquis Gloucester but they will still be quite expensive.

I have an executive monocoque and can't imagine it would be possible to accommodate a fixed bed arrangement.
You have to remember you need somewhere for seating and eating...unless of course you're happy to eat in bed!
The bed arrangement in my monocoque provides a large'queen size bed' and takes only a minute to make up.....
unlike a lot of the larger motorhomes that have a 'fixed bed' that is often smaller and also has a corner cut off.
You can of course, If you prefer, have two singles.
We've just spent seven weeks touring and at my age a good bed is important...no complaints whatsoever.
Have you seen/experienced the beds made up?
Hope this helps
Cheers Ian

Re: Palermo purchase ??
The Amythyst and Legend were the longest Monocoques made but to my knowledge neither they or any others were built with a fixed bed. They are all about a foot narrower than the coach builts so wouldn't have the room.
