Strip light.
Hi. went out in the van last week and turned one of the strips light on and it failed to work. I naturally presumed that the tubes must have gone. Went and got two replacements but neither worked. The guy in the shop had a look and suggested that the whole strip unit needed replacing. Thats not a big job but i want to replace it with an original so that the covers all match. Anyone out there know of any source of original replacements. Its a 1996 vw t4talent. Cheers.

My Symphony (1997) uses standard caravan strip lights. Have you a caravan breaker anywhere near you?

Re: Strip light.
A-S have used Labcraft Trilite KL16 lights for many years now - my '99 van had them.
Does it look like this?:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
They are called "Trilite" because they can actually be fitted with 3 tubes, though A-S only ever (to my knowledge) fitted them with 2 tubes installed.
If that's what you need I have 2 new complete KL16 fittings here, which came unused from the camper van that was delivered to me in April, as I immediately replaced them with LED converted KL16s.
If they match your existing light and you're interested in buying one, let me know via PM - I'd be looking for £12 plus postage at cost.

Hi mojo and thanks for your reply. The lights in my van are different to the ones that you have. Mine have got side switches. If i cant get any il have to consider replacing with different fittings. I might be back in touch with you yet. Cheers.

Perhaps like this?:

I seem to recall that our previous Transit based A-S had these - also made by Labcraft but no longer available new afaik. Might be worth a look at their DL14 type as well - visually similar to the above, but I don't know if the size is the same.

Re: Strip light.
Algy - yes both still available. I'm fairly sure I can package both to fit within the new Royal Mail 80mm size limit, which means £2.60 2nd class post for the two. The new price structure is a real pain though, because if you go over that 80mm thickness limit, the price doubles to £5.20! I'll check tomorrow and see what packaging I have available.
Incidentally, if anyone needs brand new spare 8W fluorescent tubes to fit Labcraft lights I have several available from the KL16s that I converted to use LEDs.

I know what you mean - there is also a weight threshold, so if you go over 1 kilo, 2nd class doubles in price as well. For anyone who hasn't used the Post Office for parcels since the price hikes in April, be prepared for a shock. I tend to use Interparcel now, but I'll take a look at Parcel2go, as they seem to have added a lot of new services since I last used them.
The KL16 lights come with 2 tubes fitted already, but if you want some additional new tubes as spares they are a quid each - just let me know how many you need, if any.

Ok Algy - I'm still smarting a bit from a mistake with the Post Office earlier today, posting off an item to someone and custom-making the packaging to fit under the 8cm limit for the new Small Parcel rate. I failed by about 2mm, and ended up paying £5.20 to post something that I had sold (on Ebay) for £4.50! From recent trips that I've made to the PO they are catching out lots of people with their "just over and the price doubles" pricing. The ~weight~ threshold on Small Parcels is even more punitive - 1 gram over the 1 kilo and it goes from £3.00 to £6.85 for First Class.
However, I've just packaged up the two Labcraft KL16s, and it looks like I really have managed to keep them within the 80mm limit. So First Class post would be £3.00, making a total of £27. If that's Ok I can do PayPal, or personal cheque is fine if you don't mind the wait while it clears? Probably best if we switch to Private Messages from now so we don't end up publishing our personal details to the world!
I've just sent you a PM as a test, so hopefully we can go from there.

A bit late now but I use [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] not only do they pickup from your Home but also have Parcel Drop of and pick up points (mine is a 24hr taxi office very handy) their prices are reasonable given the added value of their service.
Cheers

Thanks Matt - I've used Hermes before and, though they are cheap, their pickup service can be very inconvenient, depending on your circumstances. While other couriers let you choose a collection "slot" of several hours, all Hermes will tell you is that it will be picked up some time between 08:00 and 21:00! We almost never have a day when someone is in for a continuous period of 13 hours...
However, the drop-off point feature is interesting - I've just checked your link and there is one around 2 miles from me, so I might use that in future.
