Very few problems with dampness but check below the beds for water ingress from the side window seals.
The 2.4 non turbo won't be a lot nippier than the Ford but should be a helluva lot quieter. The 2.5 turbo is a lovely motor and even lovelier when remapped
fFamma/Omnistor brackets just bolts through the shell in 3 places.
The T4 can get a bit rusty around the edges but I haven't seen serious structural problems.

The VWs are are a lot more economical than the Trannies. Generally speaking the monocoques dont suffer water ingress through the bodies. The 97 Clubman may well have the 2.5td 5 pot fitted which are great engines. If the not the 2.4 non turbo 5 pot should perform better than the old Tranny and as dandywarhol says it will be a lot quieter running.
Our 1st van was a 2.4 VW (not a Clubman, but not much bigger) and on motorways/ dual carriageways would happily return 35 mpg at around 60mph in 5th gear

Hi
A 97 Clubman @ £6000 I should be very wary indeed.

I agree with Andy - £6,000 for a 97 Clubman is around half the usual value - Ensure you carry out ALL the necessary checks before proceeding with the purchase or parting with any money.

Hi Clubman2013.
Welcome to the forum from Nottinghamshire. Sounds cheap but with luck it could be a right bargain.
Cheers. Whisky.

Hi Clubman2013.
Looks like you have called his bluff. I find that if things are to good to be true they usually are.
Still it's a shame for you, him getting your hopes up.
Good luck finding what your looking for.
Whisky.

Hi Clubman2013,
I was like you about anything 'French, completely anti, always had Transits, BUT after inquiries from those
who know better than me, I bit the bullet & bought a 98 2.5 Peugeot mono, best thing I did, its great,
NO rust whatever, its running before I let go of the key, OK, its a bit gutless (non-turbo) so I can only
comfortably cruise at 60 (sat-nav) but 'er-indoors prefers it that way as I tend to hammer the cars
